Rim Polishing
So Ive picked-up another set of oldschools that have definitely lost their 80's "bling".
Id like to try to polish them out myself since my friend who usually did my polishing has is taking a 4-5 year vacation(hopefully out in 3). So does anyone have a good step by step to do this? Sandpaper grit and whatever. Yes, Ive searched and didnt really find what I need to know. Thanks in advance for any help. Oh yeah.....aluminum.

If there not really bad you can just get some mother aluminum polish. Or take em to a decent place and get em done really good. Usually if the arent too messed up rb motoring does em for cheap

damn just curious, unless you feel like polishing wheels every couple months - why not have them done professionally and then have them clear coated, so that they dont require this constant maintenance? just a thought |

Classic.......... no it aint for polishing wheels.
That hell of made me laugh. I have the paint equipment to even clear them after, but they need alittle more then just MOTHERSPOLISH. I was just hoping someone has done this and could give me an idea of what grits to start and end with. Like everything else in the world.... someones already done it and knows the easiest route.

when i polished my iroc rims i used an aircraft paint remover to get the old spider webbed clear off. but make sure you mask off your tires and valve stem.
next i hit it by hand with 220, 320, 500 then in about 300 increments all the way to 2000. im sure you can do it faster with a dremel but i had alot of time on my hands and i wasnt in a rush. after i had gotten them up to a shine that i wanted i then hit it with mothers mag/alum polish by hand. then hit it with the mothers buff ball with any rubbing compound you choose. after that was all good i hit it with zoop seal. it kept its shine up real well. but you will have to hit it about ever 2 months or so with the zoop seal. or you can clear your rims. if you dont seal it i would give it a week or so before it gets all tarnished. hope that helps |
