95 240sx O2 sensor question

Hey guys... I'm new to the 240 "scene" so plz don't flame on me TOO hard, lol. I have a 95 240sx base that is completely stock. When I bought it, it was throwing a cel, when I had it scanned, it said that my knock sensor was bad and that an o2 sensor was bad (1st bank, 1st position is how it refered to it). So I'm guessing this is the sensor that is actually in the engine bay right where the exhaust comes out of the motor right? Also, I'm a little confused about what o2 sensor I can use. I've been told there is a difference between the early production model o2 sensor and the later ones. If anyone could clear that up for me I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

You can easily check...you're correct, that code is for the primary O2 in the exhaust manifold.

It's either one green wire (pretty much every '95 model will have a 1-wire sensor), or it has a 3 wire plug ('96 style)

...or just go by the parts store, and buy what they tell you to.
