S&W roll cages any info will help....

http://www.swracecars.com/shopdispla...;26+Roll+Cages

Does anyone here actually have one of these cages and if so can I get a review of it? 10pt or 6pt doesn't matter. I've searched and found little to no info. on these. Just smart-a$$ comments like if they don't cost a lot they can't be good.

Just trying to get some research done and no I'm not dropping $2000 plus on a custom cage so please don't suggest it. I just need this info before I purchase an Autopower 4pt.

**UPDATE**

Just got off the phone with them and they do provide the 8pt cage for the S13 in DOM for $399 SCCA legal. 10pt $499.

S&W has been making cages and chassis parts for YEARS. My dad has been drag racing since I was young, and he's been using there stuff for quite some time. I think his current vehicle is backhalfed with S&W parts actually.

Do you know the difference between the D.O.M, mild steel, and moly? I know that they are make from different materials, but what's the different in terms of strength? How come you aren't going for the 10pt?

Moly is stronger and lighter. Cages should only be made from it or .120 DOM. Plenty of people use .90 DOM and it works but personally my life is worth more than $200 difference. If its an occasional track car the DOM is your best bet as its inexpensive and still plenty strong, dedicated tracks cars are still fine with it but you may be concerned enough about the weight to spend the money on the Moly steel.

There are a few people that I have seen that run their kits and they look great...

I'd completely consider getting on... The chromoly kit though for a couple hundred more...

Im currently running a modded S&W cage in my prac drift car/ DD s13 coupe. i had the halo redone by a local cage shop ( Piper motorsports) so it was 5 1/2 inch wider and had them bend the ends inward to meet the org. S&w main loop... i also used what was org. the dash bar as the diag bar from the top corner of the mainloop to the opposing side floor. I still have yet to make door bars but in all im was happy with the kit and it decreased alot of money and time otherwise.... me and my Dad did the nessasary cuting, notching, and weld ourselves ( third cage my Dad has done) and im super happy with how it turned out

I can't find any of the Nissan roll cages except in the mild steel section. Did you call them and see if it could be done? I'm thinking about getting a 10pt one. So the moly is only 0.083". Is that enough? The D.O.M. is 0.120. They both are the same price, so if the moly is lighter and still just as strong, I might go with it. Does anyone know off the top of their heads if these are SCCA and NACA legal?

SW Cages fit better than Autopower but thats about it.

Chromoly isn't SCCA Legal due to poor welding making it brittle. not really an issue since this isn't 1970 but SCCA is retarded.

Seam welded mild isn't legal either, although technically DOM is seam welded then twisted. Nobody really checks for seams though and they're easy enough to hide.

SW Cages were never intended to be SCCA Legal so they don't come with a main hoop diagonal, maybe its an option, I haven't seen one though.

99.9% of 240SXs will need 1.5 x.120 to be within the rules. If somehow you manage to get under 2200lbs IIRC you can run .93 wall.

The 240sx cages are on the website when you go under DOM or Moly you have to click on next page and keep going till about page 10. I did call them as well though because I didn't see it either. When I spoke to them they said they could make it SCCA legal if need be.

From what I'm hearing I'm gonna go with this over the Autopower because it's def. a better base. With some mods I can have a pretty nice cage.

bloodangels13 - Do you have any pics? I have the same car and want to do just what you did. I have a sunroof don't know know if you do too or if that matters with their design.

Their DOM cages are 1 3/4" x .120" wall 8pt/10pt
Their Moly cages are 1 5/8" x .083 wall 10pt, 1 3/4" x .083" 8pt

I'm going with DOM so it should be fine for the S13. I've looked for places that accept Moly but they want it thicker. Like Formula D and D1 want everything at .095 wall. And as McRussellPants pointed out SCCA won't allow it.

just a side note, poor welding doesn't make chromoly brittle, any welding on 4030 steel will make them brittle, you just have to anneal it afterward.

2201 - 3000 lbs.
1.500” x 0.120” Seamless mild steel (DOM)
1.625” x 0.120” Seamless mild steel (DOM)
1.750” x 0.095” Seamless mild steel (DOM)

That should be SCCA rule. 1.75x.120 is a pretty husky bar, I seemed to remember that stuff weighing a ton. you could run like 6 bends in the mainhoop and noone would care with that size.

The SW stuff fits with the interior in so you might have to mess with it alot to make it work right.

if you could get your car to weigh under 2200 you could use 1.5x.095 but nobody has gotten an S13 that light yet.

does anyone have pics of their S-chassis with an S&W cage. i would like to see how they look. right now my first choice is cusco/safety21 followed by custom. the autopower 4pt bars are ok, but i dont like their full cage design.

This is Dennis George's comments on his S&W cage for his NOPI S3 Wanli team drift car:

"love the cage, this was done in one day, mothers day in fact. S&W Racecars are awesome.... www.swracecars.com these guys seriously kick ass. This cage can be bought as a kit that you have to weld in yourself. You get all the tubing prebent and ready to weld with some notching and fitting."

"Oh yeah, the cage is made from 1.75 in, 0.120 wall thickness, DOM tubing."

"I got a price on the cage that is in my car for those who were asking.

With a standard single sidebar on both the driverside and the passengerside, sloping down like my passengerside. Its $590 plus shipping, shipping to Atlanta is $100.

With the nascar style sidebar, its $75 more.

You will get all the pieces already bent and longer than you need. You measure and cut, then notch and spot weld. I can help anyone who needs it, as I did the first cage myself in my garage with my mig welder. I obviously did ok, cause the cage saved my life/legs. Honestly, had it been an autopower cage, I would not be walking right now, that I am 100% sure of seeing as the car hit directly at the firewall straight at my feet.

These guys can make it and ship it pretty quick."

and some pics

this is from his previous car:

"This is the first cage I got from them that I put in myself. It took me a while to notch the tubes and fit it perfectly."

Are they charging you a fee for pick up or are you really saving 100% on the shipping? I didn't even think about picking it up myself I'm def. gonna do the same thing. It looks like it's just a 2.5 hour drive for us NYers.

So basically 10pt DOM tubing with nascar style side bar (on both sides?)

Oh yeah, let me know who puts in it for you. I was gonna let RPM NYC do mine but I'm open to suggestions.
