this has been covered to death.

basic rules to follow:
• unless its new/been rebuilt/already runs synthetic - dont use it.
• 10W30 is a basic overall weight, and in your case would be fine (150k is enough miles, but nothing too drastic just yet) If you're experiencing valve tap, etc. you may want to switch to a heavier wight (ie. 10W40) which may help you out also in those higher temps you socal guys see.
• get the best oil you can afford. Whats the best you say? ..that all comes down to personal opinion. A billion guys will stand up for one brand, while a billion others are trying to push it down. So its all what YOU think is best.

Personally, I run royal purple 10W30 in my car. no complaints.

I can't find the original article I found on oil, but here's where I reposted it. Definitely a good read about oil, type, and how it works best for your particular car. http://race850.com/boards/showthread.php?t=475

dynasour blood lol.... yeah i rolled with royal purple for a bit too 20 50 i think no complaints. right now im using the oil from my work, 5 30 from like 76 i believe, its free so i dont complain, i could change the oil once a day if wanted. its all preference for example ive heard alot of bad and good things about mobil 1, i didnt have a good first impression considering i blew up my sr within hours after changing oil(mobil1) i am not saying thats why it blew up but it gave me the gitters lol. do your research and see what you like best.

i searched already and all i found was mixed reviews, people arguing about which type to use.

i think last time i used penzoil 20w-50, should i go with the same?

oh and one more question, should i use synthetic or conventional?

i already answered the synthetic question. oil is all about personal preference. theres no right or wrong answer. its what YOU THINK is best for your car (as far as brand goes.) if you like what you've been running, and you havent had any problems with it, then by all means...do what you want.

this isnt something you should be asking for opinions about. its pointless, its like asking what engine is better. its a stupid question that has no "right/wrong" answer.

The whole thing about synthetics... is bullshit. There is no proof that you shouldn't switch from conventional to synthetic; its just a myth.

what if you have no idea if your SR engine ran synthetic or regular dinosaur oil? Can you just put the organic non synthetic oil and run it for a day than drain it again? Or do you have to gradually switch over?

I use Royal Purple 10w30 with a 165k miles on the motor. Moving to 10w40 see if it fixes some of the rattling/noises.

Yes it's negligible. They dissolve in each other, so after a few oil changes, it doesn't matter.

I use Castrol GTX 5w-30. Bout to switch to 10w-30 because her timing chain is a bit noisy on startup and in cold weather.
