Buying obd II reader

hi guys, my car is s14 96 stock KA with 101,000 mileage.
Rigth now the check engine light is on..that's sad.
I plan to buy the obd II reader. after check around it could cost
from 20$ to 200+.

I would like to know which one is right for me.
I don't run a mechanic shop; just a try-to-be DIY dude.
I am not a cheap dude, but I don't want
to pay for what I'm not gonna use too.

Basically, I need to read the obd II code error, reset it.
Not sure if any features of obd II reader is good to have.

what are the basic features that when you buy the reader
it has to be there otherwise you won't buy it...

Thanks you in advance.
Appreciate your time to read and possibly reply
Pat

why dont you just go to autozone? they have one there! have you tried removing your battery for like 10 minutes? happened to me! then put the battery back on and the light was gone

yeah just go to autozone they have for rent since ur not gonna use it everyday or pretty often. all you have to do is give them the money of how much it cost and when your done useing it you just return it to them and they give you back all your money. they only take your money because they said to many people have broken it or done somthing to it so they take your money for insurance.

you shouldnt just remove your battery cable and put it back on cuz once you do that your car comp has to remember how you drive all over again and the light will come back on usually after you drive around 50 to 100 miles and you wont pass smog cuz its letting you know a sensor is bad

There's a good variety of them available now, Actron seems to be the best supplier so stick with that, go for the middle price segment to get the best options/features unless you really don't need them. I use an $80 unit that works fine for me.
