Help please! Turns, but doesnt start. Have fuel and spark... Need ideas!

Hi,
I have a 95 240 that wont start. I searched and didnt find anything close to my problem.

It was running two days ago, but i put it in the garage for some bodywork, and didnt start it those two days.
I did have an issue with the starter (it would click and not turn, so i would have to pump the clutch in while the key was turned to start it.. i assumed the clutch switch) but i always could get it to start.

Now it wont start. It turns right away but just keeps cranking.
When it cranks, it sounds like its about to start (the car kind of shakes a little like how it would when its starting).
I checked all 4 spark plugs and im getting spark.
I can hear the fuel pump priming when i turn the key.
I pulled off the top line from the fuel filter and there is fuel coming out.
I can smell gas from the exhaust and the engine bay.
It is turning strong, it doesnt sound at all like the battery is weak. I tried a jump pack and jump starting.

All my fuses are good (except the 15 one that says 12v.. i took the 15 one from the blower amp and replaced it and nothing, so i put it back)

What am i missing?

I'm thinking that the starter isnt getting enough juice. I'm scared to try and kick start it, because i live up a hill and if i dont get it started i wont be able to put it in my garage (no hood right now, its getting fixed at school).

Thanks in advance!
Zac

how's the compression? You're getting spark and fuel so that rules those out. how's the timing? try opening the throttle a bit when starting the car, maybe it's closed too much. volt test the battery though it sounds good if you're able to crank over the engine in a healthy manner. how does the car run when it runs?

Car ran alright, with some bogging here and there (rare though).

I ordered a MAF and just put that on tonight (it wasnt starting since yesterday).

I didnt think to check the codes since i had a CEL on earlier (crankshaft position sensor), so i just checked it.

Pulled up 2 new ones.
1-1 for Camshaft position sensor
and 1-2 for MAF.
I dont understand how it could have gotten the MAF one that quickly, but i guess i can switch it back if anything, because i wasnt throwing a MAF code earlier.

Sigh... alright, starting up research again. Gotta fix that camshaft position sensor before i can get it running.

Searching for like an hour.. cant find anything concrete. Took apart the dizzy and cleaned some stuff, but i get the exact same thing still. Can anyone help me with th camshaft position sensor? Ive read something about the eccs relay causing both 1-2 and 1-1 codes, but havent confirmed it.

the Cam Angle Sensor is for SR's Only

Code 11 for KA's is the Crank Angle Sensor

As for your MAF try cleaning the element with the correct type cleaner and check/clean the plugs connection

I know you checked for fuel...but did you check fuel pressure. I once had this pump hose go bad..the one that connects the pump to the tank lid. Car would sound like it was priming fuel..I pulled hose and saw fuel come out...but when I put on my FPR with gauge I would see the pressure go up to around 40psi and then drop back down to nothing.

Just an idea.

I hear it like almost starting, and i smell fuel from the exhaust too.

Coolant temp sensor? Mine went bad on my single cam, and the car didnt want to start, unless i cranked it for several minutes, and drove away immediately. I guess it defaults to some crazy negative temperature, so its dumping massive amounts of fuel in. Replaced the sensor and cleaned up the connector, and fixed everything. Worth checking, at least.

I believe it has something to do with the cam/crank angle sensor (FSM seems to say its the same).

In the FSM it says the MAF code can come on because of the cam position sensor.

I cant check the cam sensor because the engine needs to be running to do so!

As of right now, im only pulling code 1-1. (probably because the car isnt running)

Alright, so i put in a brand new starter.. Spins faster, but still no start. We tried pushing the dizzy all the way forward and then all the way back to change timing but its still the same

The car shakes a lot faster like its about to start, but still nothing...

I would try start it, then check codes pretty much every time. I would pull 11 then 55, then 11, but its been 55 for a while now.

Ill try pick up a used dizzy and put it in and see if that changes anything.

Thanks for all the help,
Zac

check continuity on the crank wires, make sure it isn't the wires.

I think i did. Thats the one where you go from the harness to the ECU and check resistance right? Everything checked out ok.
I followed all the FSM steps, except for testing the actual Cam position sensor itself because you need the car running to do that.

Im gonna try pick up a used dizzy for like $30 today or tomorrow.
