I was thinking about it yesterday so I did a search and came up with nothing. My question is that If you go turbo and want to do the brake conversion but don't have the cash to do it, is it alright do just get slotted, cross drilled rotors to replace the old ones? I really wasnt sure about this one, opinoons please.

Only idea behind brake upgrades along with turbo is the assumption that when you upgrade power you increase speed. So for safety reasons you need to be able to decrease speed quickly. You can use stock brakes on a car with 500hp if you want to...but I wouldn't <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='
![]() I think the 240 stops pretty well with high quality pads, tires (remember tires are the #1 factor in braking), and fresh fluid. Rotors matter but to a lesser extent (assuming different rotors of equal size). So I think as long as your not doing any serious stuff (high hp or high speed driving) you'll be fine with just good pads and rubber. Spending all that money on fancy slotted/x-drilled rotors is fine as long as you know its more cosmetic than functional. I'd just buy blanks and spend the $100 or so I saved on something else.

Depending on where you live, these other rotors (especially xdrilled) will break apart quickly in extreme temp changes. I live in MA and I've had some friends have a problem with theirs. Also, blanks are able to be turned thus giving them a longer "life". xdrilled and slotteds don't allow that. So everytime your pads go, if you feel it necessary to spend $100 on rotors too, thats your perrogative. I would rather get them turned for what... $10?
If you are racing, alot, then yes go for those. But otherwise get some nice KVR, or porterfield brake pads and some brembo blanks. This will maximize cost-to-fun ratio for sure!! Good Luck! |
