![]() okay I have a 1993 240 SX.I have had the car since new. I am having a issue with Alternater not charging the battery. The battery is new and I have replaced the Alternater with a new one. When I saw the battery was still not charging I went back to the shop and had them test the old Alt just to find out it was good all along. The Alt relay 75v appears to be fine. Is this possibly a ignition switch problem? I have had issues with it in the past. I would hate to go buy a new one and that wasan't the problem and then of course I coudn't return it. Thanks for any assistance

Thanks for such a quick reply. I have checked the ground and all are well .
It appears no power is going to the alt.Somewhere in the circle of electricity something is wrong. Maybe the ignition switch, fuse, relay, bad wire? but I'm really not sure. I appreciate your comments and Help. |

also forgot to note this as well. When I turned off the key switch for the Ignition, the check Engine,Brake and belt lights actually come on. I have to turn the key back and forth several times to make them turn off. This just started happening when the other problem arose. I think maybe there connected.

how did you check your grounds? i hope you used a multimeter cuz a visual inspection isn't gonna do shit for good measure i'd disconnect each one and hit with a wire brush or piece of sand paper don't be a lazy Floridian DO IT!!!!! -los

There's also a 5A fuse for the alternator under the hood, check it. It powers the regulator inside, if it's blown the alternator won't do a thing.

the problem's in your lower harness.
check all the connectors that go to your fuse box, if you don't up and see anything unplugged then look for a square reddish plug. in it you'll find a white wire with a red stripe. turn your car on (start your car) and try giving that wire battery voltage. you can strip a little sheathing off it and run a jumper wire to it aka twist your jumper wire onto the part you stripped then take the other end of the jumper wire and touch it to the battery's positive terminal. if that doesn't kick on your alternator then you need to look deeper into the lower harness for loose wires/other issues. the problem is therein if your alternator kicks on after you give it some battery juice then post back the update and we'll go from there good luck Dave =]

If nothing else By pass the harness going to the fuse box, Make up a wire 8 gage will work from the alternator to the battery, Make sure you put a fuse link in between. But this will fix a wiring problem.
