fit vs hybrid
With the increasing prices of gas these days, I've just sold my 07 300c a few days ago. Now I am having a hard time whether I should opt for a brand new Honda Fit S 5spd or a used Toyota Prius as a DD. I've been reading a few reviews about the hybrids and noticed a few costly maintenance down the line. Ive already test drove both cars; both have their pros and cons. Any word of advice on the two?

And kick your ass. But hey, maybe you'll get sympathy from the girls. Or they'll run away with the guy that beat you up since they realized that your a pussy. OP I think you should get a hybrid. |

"For 2009, Honda has stretched the Fit's wheelbase by 2 inches and moved the A-pillars forward by 5 inches, adding to the car's interior space." "The 2009 Honda Fit will be more than 2 inches longer and three-quarters of an inch wider than the original" i may be in the market for a beater car too and have been researching. the 2009 fit is going to be redesigned too. its kind of uglier, but a little roomier. "Fit that the automaker hopes will even better suit the American automotive tastes because it is longer, wider and more powerful." i like the more interior room part, but being more powerful, means less mpg, which is one of reasons for me to buy it. i like the yaris too, but too bad it didnt come in 5dr form. my points into buying a beater are: *relatively new w/ little to minor maintenance *mpg, mpg, mpg (30+ is ideal) *large rear interior for hauling shit (i have a van, but it's annoying to take out the seats everytime i have to pick up something and it gets less than 20mpg) the fit is ideal b/c of the "magic seats" system and gets high mpg. the seats fold down and i won't have to get someone to help me take them out and put them in like I do with my van. the downside is that it's not big enough to put a hood in, but how often do i pick those up? it can easily fit some seats, bumpers, or other large items. the current fit looks ok too, but next year's model will be a bit bigger which is a plus. next year model looks a bit uglier though, but i think i wouldn't mind the trade off for being a bit bigger inside. (ill be able to manuver things easier) but if it gets crappier gas mileage, i would have to side with the current generation fit. |

hybrids are expensive to maintain when theyre out of warranty. i say that having worked at toyota.
get the fit, swap in a N/A K20 with ITB's and call it a day.

MrBrightSide, dude just take the CHP course. As soon as I get some extra cash I'll be buying a bike. The hybrid or trendy little small cars just aren't for me.

80mpg in the new prius? we're finally getting somewhere. i'd swerve that. i'd have to get a sticker for the back window though. somthing along the lines of "i bought it for the gas mileage, not because i'm a douchey hippie".

GM's volt and Nissans Cube are also coming out soon thats all electric. Also you guys are gay talking about doing engine swaps on a fit. The car is built to be an econo box. This is not honda tech, please stop the madness. Anyone who wastes 1,000s on bodykits and engine swaps for a fit should be banned from zilvia. |

I have an 08 Fit.
I love every bit of it, it was 15K. Gas - It was rated something like 37/34, I forget the exact. On average city and hwy i got 37mpg with spirited driving. Now in the past 4 tanks and because gas keeps going up I have been driving normally and staying at 65-70 on hwy and it gets 39-40mpg. Now if I really push it and coast a lot I got 42 on a tank, and this included one trip to downtown chicago and a lot of stop and go, I think I can push 43-44 on it. The Prius actually gets about the same, it gets under 40 if you never get on the hwy and the engine is running more than it is on electricity. Space - I have a coworker who has a Prius and space wise the Fit is not that far from it. The rear of a Fit is actually quite spacious even for someone with long legs. The head room is deceiving spacious like the xB, its not great for 5 people but 5 grown people can fit, 4 is perfect. And the trunk space is there to carry all 4 peoples stuff. Also the magic seats are awesome, fold them down and you can carry 4 wheels and a jack easily (without stacking). Fold them up and you can carry a bike. Ride - First off get manual, especially if you are concerned about gas so much easier to control your mileage. The car rides pretty well stock, its a little tail happy and the suspension is soft but its comfortable on a long ride. Only suggestion is buy the JDM armrest (I need to do that still). It has 5 cupholders a decent sound system (Sport). I added a Pioneer Avic Z2 and hacked it so it makes for the best long trip ride. On top of all that it looks awesome, the prius is hideous, and I cant stand the fact that the monitor just shows the engines status and controls audio. I want navi and dvd in my daily not to see a flow of power... I also got STANCE coilovers for it and they are great, rides better than stock, its still soft and smooth but looks better. The only thing I hate about it, is its a Honda. Hondas are fun to mod (hate them or not), and there is so much shit I could buy. However, I am trying to restrain myself and only buy comfort things. Although I am considering an intake to see if I can get better mileage.

^^^ it's true. They're retarded slow. I think the VX has 92hp...something like that.
But lately I've been driving like a grandma anyways. I never get above 2200 rpm 1st - 3 rd gear, 2500 rpm 4th and then 3000 rpm in 5th which is around 65ish. I swear if I can't get my 2.5rs over 30 mpg soon I'm gonna sell it. It's rated for 28mpg and I have been getting 25-26 mpg average.

Some of my friends are buying the Smart car. I see those things on the hwy haulin' ass lol. At this point with how gas is I'm either about to get a bike or get something small like you all are talking about (crx, civic, 323 anything over 30mpg).
