I would like to know the 0-60 times and 1/4 times of the stock KA and SR. Both in S14 body.

And then what is a better engine to use to reach 300hp

Thanks

I'll assume you're speaking of the SR20DET and the KA24DE (there are a lot of variations which are all over the place in performance).

0-60: no comparison. the KA is ~8 seconds. Dunno for sure where the SR lies (perhaps 6.5-7?), but stock for stock you've got 155 hp/160 max out of the KA and 205-250 hp out of the SR.

As far as which is best to reach 300hp, that's a loaded question. Both can get there for about the same amount of money. If you're zeroed in at 300hp, I'd go with a 300hp KA over a 300hp SR because it (should) have more torque, giving better low end power and being quicker off the line. Larger displacement (again, should) allow for a larger turbo to spool sooner as well. This is just my opinion, the SR has advantages of it's own, which I'll let somebody else go into.

With the KA, 300 hp would pretty much require an engine rebuild, new pistons, rods, etc. to put up with the strain. I'm not certain what the max recommended output on the SR's internals are. . .

Yeah I just don't know about the whole "truck" engine thing And getting a new engine just get 50 hp and torque is expensive!

So many desicions! Aahhhhhhh

Yeah but a new engine might be worth it depending on how many miles are on your KA because most SR's and I suppose CA's too have around 30 to 40 thousand miles on them.

The Viper use's a "truck" engine, so there's no point in that thought. All 0-60 times I have seen for ca18det's run around 6.7 to 6.9, I would guess the SR to be around 6.3 to 6.5, tghats a total guess. Every engine has it's good and bad side's

Depends on driver I guess. Stock 240 should do 7.7 with a good driver.

the SR20DET can do 350hp on stock internals.
altho i've heard ppl pulling 400hp out of stock internals.
and i think the CA18 can whip out 400hp stock?

====

the only reason why both engines 'take the same amount of money to mod to get the same amount of hp' is that:

(1) you have to buy the SR20 which is already prepped up for u...
(2) whereas u have to rebuild the KA24's internals
(3) SR20s are in demand thus they are expensive.. couple years back they only ran for 2000-4000 a piece
depending on quality. now they run 3000-6000....
(this is all being based in CDN dollars...)

I know that there are several people pushing 300whp on stock internals on an s14 KA.

Truck engine was first put in the Stanza... truck came much later.

I would just rebuilt by high mileage KA b/f getting a CA... since that engine must be 10 years old, it would be due for a rebuild anyway.

But isn't rebuilding an engine much harder then to just put a new one in like the SR

If I juiced the ka, I would want a new crank, pistons, rods and a full valve train rebuild... so I think it would be a lot of work, if you do all that, then engine is new anyways. No mileage really doesn't matter right? And I have hear numbers as low as 7.5 (motor trend, 1996) to 8.5 (some crack addict on the street) so it is really tough to say!

Hey guy's,

If you want a champaign engine, you can't do it on a beer budget. If reliability is an issue, then you need to for over the green (Canada, rainbow coloured paper).

I love the idea of sticking with the North American rooted KA and Turboing the crap out of her. For the basic NSport Kit (with ecu) 240hp will be had, no rebuild necessary. After that, get yourself some cash for a rebuild.

Has anyone thought of buying an s14 KA motor with low miles and installing new rods, pistons, and crank, while running 7psi on a turbo kit installed on your s13 KA or s14. That works well, good power now, and potenial for crazy power later.

The SR20DET can push 500rwhp on stock internals without a problem. In order to do this right however you must properly engineer your car. You can't just throw on this mod and that mod that make X# of hp and expect it to last. Spend the time to design your turbo system properly and you won't regret it.

ya Socom, and the last guy I heard did that grenaded his engine .
People if you are going to try to push that kind of power you seriously have to do internal work. Regardless of the engine.
Socom don't go off on your speech about how Nissan built the SR20DET for the turbo because gee we already know that. It came with a Turbo stock and you think they would engineer it right.
Yet they did not engineer it to push 500rwhp stock . You do that for any length of time and it will explode. So stop misleading these guys into expensive repairs.

Hey Socom,

Don't take it personally, but bolting on to a stock engine to push high hp is plain stupidity. For those with the cash to build that kind of power, an engine rebuild is the first step.

I wouldn't most stock engines pushing more then 8 psi then what they were designed for (generalization). Keep reading, keep asking questions, and don't make claims unless you have proof to back it.

This will prevent you from getting pounded on in these threads.
