Hey! Just got a 1990 240sx! First car I've bought (My last car was a hand-me-down 1982 Chevy...) and I'm loving it!

The rear brakes are totally shot though. The auto shop's estimating $600 for a repair. The extent of my car knowledge is replacing brake pads and changing oil on the old chevy, but I need to replace more than the pads on my 240sx.

What parts am I gonna need to repair my car myself? How much is it gonna cost? (Less than $600 I'd hope!)

Thanks for any advice!

Pad wont be more than 50 for the rears, get the rotors turned out here we get that for like 15 a rotor. I doubt the calipers are shot, so that should be it. look at autozone for rotors if need be.

Well, considering that the estamated cost of repair was $600, the calipers could very well be shot. Going to http://www.courtesyparts.com/ I got the following prices:

Rear Brake Pad: $42.59
Rear Brake Hardware Kit: $17.03
Rear Brake Caliper Seal Kit: $33.36
Rear Brake Rotor(1): $59.63
Rear Brake Rotor(1): $59.63

Total: $212.24 (Not including shipping)

So a $600 repair cost (about $350 in labor)? I'm thinking Bullshit. I don't know though. Would there be any other parts that could add extra costs in there?

come one, rear calipers shot? I really doubt it but it could happen. But no way in #### are both shot at the same time.....what kind of place did you take it to? if need be you can get rebuilt calipers from autozone etc.

if you are low on cash like some people might be during christmas then you can go the cheap way for now and then upgrade later.
$20 brake pads
$80 each for brake calipers-those r not cheap no matter what, unless u go to junk yard.
one of my calipers in the rear was shot-the #### thing wouldnt go back in, it would stay out and burn up my brake pad, haha
bleed the brakes urself.
and maybe buy a new brake line, $18
and like everyone says, just get the rotors cut(turned) unless they are really f'ed up, then buy new ones $30 bucks
dont buy this stuff from net, go to a parts store,
"doesn't it feel good to pay less"
then, when you have mad cash, buy the best stuff in the world
$200 brake calipers
$500 brake pads
$500 rotors etc..
