SR not spooling right

ok heres the deal i got an s13 with an sr swap done a while back. the harness was hacked so i tried to fix it but it was a no go so the car sat for 6 months. recently got it on the road with a brand new harness and done professionally at a local 240 shop. the car has a t25 with a welded external wastegate on the stock manifold. i have a hks front mount walbro fuel pump and a bunch of other goodies. stock ecu and no tuning devices. it ran fine before but would have to replace spark plugs often.

ok so my problem is when the car is warmed up and im driving at around 3k and i start to push on the throttle the car rappidly backfires, sounds like machine guns. but when the car isnt fully warmed up it doesnt do that it boosts fine. currently running 6lbs of boost. replaced the maf and someone said my wastegate may be done or acting up. im gonna take that apart tomorrow and test it at the shop. also gonna look at the coil pack and recheck the gap on my plugs. anyone got some help.

Im having an external wastegate issue as well...Im running a GT28R @ 17psi top mounted with a Tial 38mm wastegate. In 1st the car doesnt want to boost at all really, maybe like 5-6psi and I can also hear the screamer pipe at anything above about 50% throttle and sometimes in 2nd it acts the same way, its like my wastegate is sticking open or something, maybe time for a rebuild w/ new springs?? I also have an exhaust leak in my manifold before the turbo so Im going to get that fixed and see if it solves my problem....

check your timing.

replace your coolant temperature sensor or "CTS"

from your description, the most obvious answer is the CTS, because once the car is warmed up, your CTS is all jacked up causing you to run rich. thus backfires.

there are procedures in the FSM for troubleshooting things like this.

i also say make sure yout throttle position sensor or "TPS" is calibrated properly.

i remember seeing similar symptoms related to a shitty fuel filter as well. replace with an OEM nissan Z32 fuel filter.

also take a look at your o2 sensor. sounds to me once you car goes from open loop to closed (or is it the other way around?) anyway, when you start the car the o2 sensor is too cold to read so the car runs without reading the o2 til the sensor warms up. then when the sensor warms up enough, the car will then run properly. it may be that your o2 sensor is messed up so the car runs properly when the car doesnt read the o2 signal but messes up when it starts to read it. hope it helps.

I also have the same question about the coolant temp sensor....both of them...I swapped out the gauge sensor in the SR for the KA one but Im not getting a reading, it just sits at the mid point (normal temp) all the time, even when I first start the car. Should I try one for a B13 Sentra w/ SR?? I only need the stock gauge until my temp gauge adapter comes in the mail then Ill be installing my water temp gauge.
