Be carefull. I am scared of nos. I have seen pictures of nos bottles that have exploded in cars... scary stuff.
Also, my friend died from inhaling it at a party about 6 years ago. He had it hooked up in his civic, very nice one btw back in the day, and he took it out for the party.... anyways, be carefull. |

If it's done right, nitrus isn't as dangerous as people make it out to be. What needs to happen to your car really depends on how much nitrus you're giving it. A small shot will be fine on stock internals, though something bigger will require such things as new pistons and rods to take the extra force. Make certain you have a reputable shop install your system, 'cause bad things will happen when it's not done right (know of somebody who's Jetta caught fire and burned to a crisp on his first shot of NOS). If you're really looking for solid and reliable performance, I'd recommend a turbocharger. It'll be a #### of a lot cheaper in the long run (no consumables), and they do tend to be safer.

Personally I wouldnt recommend running a dry system if you are gonna jet more then 50hp unless you get your ecu retuned to inject extra fuel to make up for the extra oxygen that is now gonna be present to avoid getting a lean condition...from the sounds of it if it's a single fogger since you said it was gonna be plumbed into your intake...again I'd personally go with a direct port setup..it is much safer then a single fogger. As far as upgrades as long as you aren't using a ridiculous amount of nos..like more then 120 you can get away with stock parts...just UPGRADE your fuel pump!!!...I used a 300zx tt fuel pump.
To the guy that has a friend inhaling it: well your friend that was inhaling the nos from his nos bottle needs to understand that there is a big differance in the nos in his nos bottle and the nos that say a doctor uses...the nos bottle nos has sulfur dioxide in it...so your buddy basically just dry cleaned his lungs =X |

yes theres a reason theres sulfur dioxde in there...so that people wont sit around and huf the shit.
just buy whippits if you really wanna get high off it, they're not even a dollar a piece at your local headshop, and they wont kill you, either |

Try a junkyard for that fuel pump <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> I'm sure pdm-racing has them as well.

You can almost think of it this way, for every 50 shot you do, that is = to about 5000miles of wear and tear. So it is up to you, easy power, will win street races agains the big boys, but your poor stock engine will not appriciate it for long. If I were you I would re work the whole head, cylinder and conecting rod combo if you plan to use the nos with any frequency.

wow, that much wear and tear? <a href="http://nitrous.org/faq/index.p?view=12&act=view&fq=nitrous" target='_blank'>http://nitrous.org/faq/index.p?view=12&act=view&fq=nitrous</a>

It's a chemical reaction. It creates a lot of heat and causes the engine jump... shooting an extra 100hp into the engine will screw with any system. It won't kill the engine, and due to the high heat that it can produce it can actually clean your carbon deposites etc... don't kid yourself though, that is cause it is really hot. After a while heat brakes down engines. That is a fact, but if you are using it like once a week you shouldn't have huge problems. But most true racers who use a lot of nos also tear there engines down once a week too... NOS blows rings, and I have heard of 2 guys who's valves didn't put up with the sudden boost and they had valve problems.

as with any forced induction application, you're pushing it. once you want to get to 100 and beyond, you should look into valvetrain reinforcement...valves, springs, retainers, maybe rings. much more and you're going to need newer pistons and rods.
if laughing cas is your thing, go ahead. turbocharging is more interesting to me, however (Edited by mistert at 9:16 am on Dec. 3, 2001) |
