Hey hey hey. When I was doing that clutch job the other weekend, I noticed that my shifter is very odd in the truck. It comes out of the top of the transmission, does almost a 90 degree bend toward the front of the truck for about 3 inches, and then bends back up at an angle to come out of it's rubber boot and look normal in the cab. Does anyone know if the 240's have that setup, or are they a completely straight stick coming out of the transmission? I'm thinking I would like a shorter, straight stick. Right now, it's like shifting a #### bus.

Also, does anyone else's tranny not shift very nicely in winter, until the car warms up?

Heres a pic of our shifter

Thats actually the obx short shifter but the stock one looks almost identical. And, yes, my shifter does feel a little "thick" before the car warms up.

my friend has a Dakota and is going to do an auto to stick swap. I told him he shouldn't because I hate (with a passion) having those long ass stick shifters in trucks. but his will just be like our cars, he has a console, and he's going to swap it into the console itself. he doesn't have a floor mount for it. but he just needs to keep it auto (I think), he has a '01 R/T Dakota, bad ass truck! but man do I hate those long ass sticks!!!! my other friend has a 91 SS 350 truck, he hates having to make long shifts, that's when he loses races (and because he can't drive for $#!T!!!) but he misses gears all the time because its' so long and he's use to cars. but I'd like to see it if you did it!

Zexel, that's a bit surprising. The Dakota I had had a fairly short throw for a truck. Maybe they changed it after 96...

Say, do you have a length for that stick? It's not looking all that short in the pic. I'm also going to try and figure out if I can use it. I'm not sure if it'll run into the dash console if I put in a straight stick.

i hope you dont plan on putting that in your truck. Talk to the guy who put a det in a nissan truck....he'll be able to tell you about the shifter geometry better than anyone else....IMHO the short shifter will be way to short in a truck to use, and the placement of the trans is usually a bit further forward in a truck than a car...you saw how the truck stick is bent

Yeah, I was thinking about that after I raised the question. Although, the tranny is only 1 inch from the section where it comes out in the truck, so I don't think the other shift would give me that much.

I started trying to shift with my hand low on the stick and found it's freakin' hard to reach. However, I think I can chop 4 inches off and still have decent comfort. I may just hacksaw off the top and re-thread it.
