Allright, I know you guys are sick of turbo and sr questions but I have done my homework and searched the net and forum but I am still a little confused. When I goto unstable hybrids they want like 5K+ to install a S13 red top but I see them all the time on Ebay for like $1500 or so with everything but the IC. So lets say that I know someone that will install the motor for free. How much would I be looking at for a stock install. I have seen figures from $2000 to $6500 and I don't understand why? The motor I would get comes with the following and I am pretty sure it has an ignitor chip:
Complete Motor -Block -Intake Manifold -Complete Head -All Sensors(No MAF) -Exhaust Manifold -Fuel Rail -Injectors -Throttle Body -Alternator -Starter -Ignition Wires -A/C Compressor -Power Steering Pump -Factory Stock OEM Engine Mounts -Engine Wiring Harness

with motor swaps prices always fluxualte.. you want to pay some guys a cheap price cuz maybe they are new at the game and they want to make  a name for themselves.. others have been doing it for a looong time and they can charge that much because they ganurtee quality..

other pices vary because of the shipping costs of motors and the condition the motor is in and the milage.. are the harnesses cut or not.. ecu and lsd etc etc.. plus there are different tyupes of SR's.. so that doesnt help either.. dont always just flock to the cheapest price.. theres no such thing as a cheap motor swap.. you pay for it sooner or later

the way i hear it, you are a complete idiot if you buy an engine 1. non-complete (MATCHING parts from the same car), and 2. not from a reputable dealer. due to the availability of these engines in japan, you never know when you're going to be getting a refurbished engine, or if they lied about having compression tested it, or if you're getting a black top from an S14 and an old high milage S13 tranny in japan. Yeah, sure, most cars in japan have extremely low milage...but also remember that something like 9/10 of these engines are out of wrecked cars.

you get what you pay for, man. I understand the SR swap isnt all that hard to do at all if you have a COMPLETE engine (every last part, especially if you get a front clip), if you have experience swapping any sort of engine before. If you wanna save the money, you can get a front clip for like $2500. That's the best value in an SR, and you could get it from unstable if you'r ehaving worries about reputable dealers.

just be careful, and remember that if the price is too good to be true, then it probably is

yea i agree front clips are the best deal.. you get everything.. plus you get a JDM front end..and if the S13 front end doesnt float your boat.. you can always hawk it and save some money.. you can easily sell it for $500.00 and then you have a SR for $2000.00 for everything..

"The S13 Redtop SR20DET install comes complete with the full engine (not including intercooler) and professional installation for $3500" -Boostdynamics

and in response to unstable-hybrid's quote of 9k+ for ~300whp...
"I can give you 300 to the wheels in an SR for $6000 and you would still have gas money left over to get home... " -Boostdynamics
2nd quote take from THIS thread.

unstable's prices are perfectly reasonable on most everything, but yeah, their upgrade prices blow

If you look into detail about what comes with swaps that you see on multiple websites lots of them put stuff with them that the average "I just want a little more umph in my car" driver doesn't need, if you aren't going to boost over stock settings you DON'T need a $1100 Greddy FMIC, you don't need a boost controller, you don't need half of the things they like to throw in their $6k packages that I have seen around.  We keep our install cost low because we don't throw all that stuff in there, let you setup your car the way you plan on driving it instead of raping you up front of things you aren't going to use anyway.   That is my definition of why you see such a fluxuation in prices around for installs.

On another note, I would NEVER buy an SR from Ebay, I think you are getting yourself in for some serious trouble if you go that route, at least if you buy it from an importer you get a legally binding contract and most of the time a run guarantee, then at least you have someone to go to when something is missing rather than an email address that isn't valid anymore.   I am not saying that all Ebay motor deals are put on by crooks but I have seen people selling SRs on there and showing pictures of them that were taken by friends of mine... how shady is that?

Yeah that Ebay stuff is hella weak the more I think about it. I am just going to buy a front-clip if I do it but the more I think about it I might just turbo my KA. I mean it is already in there and I just really like that engine for some reason. But I am heading to the Nissan meet in Orlando towards the end of the month, so if anyone has an SR and wants to try and change my mind by making me drive it, I will let you convince me. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
