Need some help with my sr.

I have a redtop sr in my 89 hatch and I am having a few problems.

1. Are the red tops cold natured engines? I have trouble starting it up, but after I do get it started it runs fine at a steady idle.

2. I have a GReddy type s bov and doing some checking while the engine was running I noticed that the bov was sucking in air. Are they supposed to do that or do I have a loose vaccum hose somewhere?

No sr run super hot. Is it real cold where you are? The problem you have can be a number of things. Bad ground, fuel filter etc etc. Or even the starter going out. Give us some more details about it. What happens when you crank it. Any veird noise?

There's a nut at the top of the BOV. you need to tighten that nut until no air is being sucked in. Your gonna have to find a mid point to which you'll get as little air being sucked in at idle and still have the BOV vent when you let off the throttle. It can be tricky sometimes especially with piston type BOV's like yours. Just keep messin with it until you find that sweet spot.

By cold natured I ment it in the aspect of an old v8 style engine. Like if it is really cold out they are a bitch to start. It rolls over fine but it takes a few times for it to stick running. I have been wondering if it is still a little of the old gas left in it. I tried to drain most of it but there was still some left.

Yeah SR's always act like little girls before they warm up. Nothing to worry about.

i live in minnesota and it starts great and runs like a top even in the cold i would look for vaccume leaks i had that problem before

I found a couple of leaks in the vaccum line. It runs a hell of a lot better now. Thanks for the info.
