KA24E tick tick tick sound

Okay so I bought a Sileighty a month or so ago with 105K original miles on the KA24E and its always had a little put-put sound from what I was told was the EGR tube. It always goes away when the engine is warmed up so I drive the car like a grandma until its gone.

Today I did the same and when the put-put was gone I noticed a terrible tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. I noticed the sound even at highway speeds so I pulled over and popped the hood. It was pretty loud and it was constant.

I said phuck it. I turned around and went home and when I got it back on the highway the sound was gone. I pulled over again and popped the hood. No more tick tick tick tick tick. WTF?

I dont know what caused that sound or why it came and went. Anyone have any ideas?

Timing chain, injectors, exhaust leak, could be a bunch of different things. Where exactly is the sound coming from in the engine bay, this info will help.

I added oil and solved the tick

NEW PROBLEM NOW!

I drove the car to work and it seemed all better. I let it sit 5 hours and got back in it and it wouldnt start. Period. It made one click sound and that was it. Then my deck spat out my CD that was in there. One click again, nothing.

I push start it and that was a chore. Then I let it warm up and drive home. All the while thinking of what it could be.

I pull into my driveway and on the downward slope I turn off the car to see if it will start on its own after getting charged from the alternator. No. Nothing. ----. Then it wont compression start.

What is going on? I guess I can try a different battery in the morning but shit...Maybe my alternator was the tick tick and now its fried and wont charge my battery?

yeah.. the shouldnt have anything to do with the oil, it just is a 240sx lol.
its a 18 year old car and does some stupid things.. well anyway yeah try to get your alternator tested somewhere. check all the connections to the battery and last check all ur fuses. maybe one popped.

Welcome to Hell. 240's drain the shit outta your wallet.

Get a reman'd starter and alternator, make sure everything is secure.

Did you add any oil stabilizer or additive to your oil when adding it? If you got some tick, its best to try and lube it up as best as possible.

Lucas Oil Stabilizer or some Motor Purr. DO IT

Sounds like your alt took a shit and you're starting to hear the Death rattles from the Single cam Me and My friends call it the Valve tick of death I've heard 5 single cams make that noise before they blew. now it could be that or it could be your timing chain guides check the slack side ( driver side, you can see it iff you take off the valve cover.) there should be a loose fitting piece of hard plastic supported by a metal bracker there. iff you don't see it then You've got a shit ton of problems ahead of you, because your chain will be cutting away at your watter jacket. If that happens then you'll definately be hearing the valve tick of Death for sure.
