HID upgrade.. what do you keep?
so my " HID " H4 bulb blew out today, and i go to pop another one in [ i sell em so its worth it for me to use em ] and i notice that my plug? is warped, i think the heat from the bulb melted it... i install the H4 anyways... and it works!
now.. question is.. will this affect my lighting? or is it nothing as long as the current passes through. also if i plan to [ and i DO ] upgrade to REAL HID in the future would i have to use this same plug.. or does the kit come w/ something that i can replace this w/? hope i haven't lost anyone... any input would be great thanks... |

I'm pretty sure that most, if not all, HID kits come with the ballast that have the wires that go to the housings. I think i read somewhere that at start-up that HID's use upwards of 20kv to get them started and then drop down to something like 8v. I think that's why they include the wiring with them.
What kind of bulbs were you using? Did you accidentally touch the bulb when you put it in(the glass part)? If you did the oils from your hand could cause the bulb to heat up far more than it should and cause them to go out prematurely. Maybe that's why it melted too.......but I don't think so....I don't think they can get hot enough to melt that plastic. ![]() ![]() |

this actually happened to me as well. i installed those "HID" **** lights..and after a while..i decided to go back to OEM. one side would be all dim n **** people thought i was so cheap i could only afford one 'HID' bulb hahah. so when i looked at the plug. my passenger side H4 plug was melted!
it doesn effect lighting but when u do upgrade to HID, the real deal, i suggest u juss go out and chop off a plug somewhere and replace the thing just to be safe. while ur at it..chop me one too! cuz i need one! |
