Just another Kouki/Silvia conversion, or is it?
Yeah yeah yeahhh, I know what you're thinking. "Some noob wanting to do a Silvia front end conversion, blah blah blah." But it's more than just that.
I see pictures and threads of people who do just front end conversions and such. Looks good, but it's just not enough for me. Not having the money to just buy a Silvia, I'm pretty much restricted to doing a conversion. Is this possible with the 1997 AND the 1998? I'm sure people have done this before, but I've never seen it. I wanna see a 240SX with a REAR Silvia conversion. You know, bumper, fenders, trunk, lights, as well as the front. Planning on doing that. Also planning on getting a Silvia dash, and swapping to RHD, with the Silvia dash. Then the normal interior. Racing seats, gauges, etc. POSSIBLY a roll cage. For the engine, RB26DETT, with the RB25DET tranny, for RWD. Yeahh, I know. People have done that too, but I want more power than the SR20DET. And I know that will require suspension upgrades to control it. Dad and I are going to do this together, as a project, and it will see tracks, as well as daily driving. I know it will be pricey, but that's no problem. Anybody have pictures of someone who's done a full Silvia conversion? Rear conversion? RB26DETT swap? With RHD? Any support and extra info would be helpful. :] EDIT: I want to start with the exterior and the RHD. Can you swap a stock 240SX engine and tranny to RHD? EDIT: Please, if you're going to act like you're 5 years old, don't even bother posting. Thaaaanks. Last edited by SoulAtSleep; 07-19-2009 at 04:31 PM.. |

Search around bro, its been done, just about anything has been done.
If i can find, i'll search for the yellow s13.5 converted to full s15 conversion, head lights, rear bumper tailights etc.. not rhd but in any case im sure it can happen. But... why do all that when you can just buy one? |

Money IS no problemo, just Dad won't spend more than $7500 on my first car, much less shell out $30,000 for a FL-legalised Silvia. :P |

You're a troll, plain and simple. You're asking a ton of stupid questions that were answered over a decade ago. Everything you can possibly imagine to ask has been asked before. Just because you're new that doesn't give you free reign to ask it again. No one here cares about your big plans anyway, you're 15 years old.

And being somewhat new to it and not knowing the answers is exactly what GIVES me free reign to ask them, previously answered or not. :] And come on. If you're REALLY 35 years old, grow up. Seriously. Why act like that? |

i used to think like this too.. and for a time 240sx did go up in value (same with corollas). but now prices are sort of jumping back to reality since most people don't want to deal with the headache of a 20 yr old car. regular production cars won't go up in value until it is at least 30 years old and are relatively rare. In the case of a nissan 240sx, it probably won't since nissan 240sx were never seen as the old types of classic cars like mustangs, camaros, and whatever type of cars you see on those restoration tv shows they build and auction off to high rollers for $100k+. |

What you have planned will be more than $7500.

just a tip I am young to and when I was 15 was when I got my first 240. Its hard bro yeah you have all the hopes and dreams but if just you and pops are doing this its going to be a very long time before you actually start driving it. Anyways on to the advice I recommend you just buy a clean s chassis witch ever one you like. Do a simple swap and build it. If your going for that whole RHD thing your better off just buying a real 180 or s13 you can find them especially in Florida ether way good luck man.

AznDriftr, If you know people selling for cheap in FL, send them my way. Hahah. :]
ThatGuy, I know it will. But that doesn't really matter. And my dad knows that. I don't know why he won't let me just GET a Silvia. s13 @ fullboost, Of course we will have the help of shops and stuff, but this isn't just a hope or a dream. My cousins and I have been a part of the JDM scene ever since they could drive. I'm just the youngest of them. My cousin Robert has a track-only R33 GT-R that I helped him build and an R34 GT-R for his daily. Another of my cousins, Sam, has an S15 that I helped HIM with. I'm not really new to this at all, just to doing my own, and I'm sure they will help me, as they are both ANC certified Master mechanics. :P But thanks for the luck, guys. I mean it. |

Every 240sx already has a "Silvia" rear end.

Not even worth posting this...
But yeah, you can do all that stuff but like most kids you don't really know how money works. Your 7500 will run out once you start factoring how much the registration is gonna be, the gas, all the parts, labor, misc stuff it takes to put parts on etc. You're better off just getting an S13 like every other kid and really mapping out how much money you have after you've budgeted a life out. You're gonna wanna buy clothes and go on dates and crap and HOPEFULLY do well in school and make something out of your self. Cars don't make you cool, you do.

And I know they all have a Silvia rear end. I mean putting on Silvia lights, Silvia trunk, bumper, quarter panels, etc. Yeahh, it will take some fabrication, but I'm positive it can be done. I just want to SEE it. |

Say S15 if that is what you mean. It's been done before. It's nothing new. It will cost you more then just saving up for a REAL S15. RHD in a LHD country is stupid. Say goodbye to drive-throughs, passing zones, etc. Woo-hoo, you'll have an easier time parallel parking, and when you get pulled over, the officer can stand out of harms way. But that doesn't really matter, because you won't be driving the car for a very long time, while you make it "JDMTYTE Yo!!!". You're a kid, and you're dreaming. It's great. But come back to reality.

Learn to drive first, then work on building a car. If you want to buy a 97 or 98 S14, you'll be spending a fair amount to begin with. If you want to do a S15 front end conversion, you'll be spending a fair amount... If you want to go through the fabrication and headache of converting the REAR to S15, there's a TON of time and money involved. If you're getting the help of any shop, labor will cost you an arm and a leg. If you want to buy a RB26DETT, a RB25DET transmission, drive shaft, crossmember, mounts, wiring, parts to make it fit and work, you're talking about a HUGE AMOUNT of time and money. You want to do a RHD conversion, you'd need to find a RHD S14 firewall and fit it in there, as well as a RHD steering rack and interior parts to make THAT work. You're looking at an EASY 20,000-30,000 (or more) dollars BEYOND the cost of the car (last I checked, Kouki S14's are still selling between 6-8k).
If Dad wants to spend money on his kid's first car so his kid can wreck it because it's impossible to drive and control for a new driver, that's cool. You guys must be made of money. Why not have him buy you a legit S15? Or save some money and get a JDM S13 or S14? I suggest a Civic. They're fanboi-tyte, cheap, and they're good on gas to boot! |

I dont normally post on things like this but this is one of the most outragious ones. Like everyone else said you are looking at major money. I'm sure your dad is all up for the ideas right now until he sees the amount of money you are talking about spending. You are gonna end up with a really powerful car that when you wreck trying to drive on the right side(wrong because we are in the US) is still gonna be worth shit to your insurance.

Lolz, I hope this kid tries to prove everyone wrong. That way when it's halfway done and no more money we can all be there to say " I told ya so" Give it up and buy a go kart instead and learn how to drive that. Chances are if you stick an RB in your 240 you will smash it up within 1320 feet of your house.
