Anyone with apexi power fc? I need help tuning!!
My car sits for long periods of time, and i have never had a problem with it till the last couple of weeks. First my engine was flooding and fouling out spark plugs and running sooooo rich it wouldnt stay idle. and eventually wouldnt start anymore. I replaced the spark plugs and now it starts, but still having the same problem. I have done a couple of this check over for things like fuel pressure regulator, made sure map sensor is producing right amount of voltage/amp ect....everything is working, next step was my apexi power fc, i go in there, and everything has been reset, I made sure power was constanly there ect and everythings fine!! I have self tuned it to the best of my knowledge, and it ides now but still runs rich. now my question is what should I do for tuning wise, I can get one here in vegas for 500-600$ for a good dyno tune, but is there anyone who can help me save that money for another project such as my rb26 build??? thanks all the help I can get the better Dan

power fc is a very smart system..but even a self-tune wont be able to release the power ..u have to get a dyno tune to get most power out of it...even my self cant seem to understand them..what version do u have

you need to be tuned by an authorized tunner
some one who knows exactly what to do

right its a STOCK base map, if you got injectors and MAF and anything else you need to either crudely dial everything, or put the stock inj, and MAF back on and drive it to the shop and swap the parts back on, or just tow it
When i had mine tuned i had the GT2871R, i drove it to my tuner with stock inj, MAF and ECU and swaped everything back on it when i got there.

let me get this straight, so if everything has been reset, ie inj/ on cylinder 1-4 is reading 100% and 0.00 ms is the stock set up? meaning maf sensor and inj have to go back to stock then?

its been along timesince ive messed with the stock setting.
there is a stock basemap loaded on the PFC so if the inj. and maf are put back in and hit reintialize it shoulkd be driveable. The base map is very rough though, it should only be used to limp it to a tunner, not to be DD'd on

Like already stated, PM Steve Shadows, he can get you a base map for what mods you have. Itll be more than good enough to use for a while till you can save enough money to get it fully tuned on a dyno by an actual tuner. He doesnt charge much for his tune...

Well, if they are an A'pexi certified dealer and tuner, they should have the Power Excel program. But I wouldnt hold that over any tuner's head. FC-loggit does the same shit if not better...

this is one of those things that i would actually not negotiate the price with because it does take a lot of time, trial and error and you basically get what you pay for.
if he says 350 he could get lazy with it. if you pay the asking price then you have reason to bitch and bullshit and be anal about it until you get what you want (with supporting mods ofcourse and within reason). the extra 150 is basically a guarantee.

These are also typically the customers who would rather just get a better peak output number than really mind beating other cars in an actual drag race where real road power matters. Just to put things into perspective for a proper tune in a lot of Dyno Dynamics equipt shops the 5-6 Hour Package is between 150-200 dollars per hour. But you get EVERY SINGLE CELL in your MAP tuned DEAD ON. No gay roller power pulls and rushing the car off the dyno. I can build you a timing map and you can tune your fuel map cruedly with a couple freeway or highway pulls up to 100 and use a Wideband 02 sensor to log and then adjust a couple times and you're DONE. But this is not a serious dyno tune or a detailed technical cell by cell solution for a long term map that is going to be tested in all spots for tractive effort, AFR, tip in throttle and even part throttle torque/hp build up. You can get a car tuned with a wideband and a one size fits all general timing map for 350-450 bucks but you are going to be missing out on soo much more power and more importantly that violent smooth as silk feeling that all the top shops get out of their house cars with hours and hours and hours of cell by cell tuning. I say invest at least 500-600 dollars for 4-6 hours of solid tuning. And always ask if the shop knows what steady state tuning is. If they have never heard of it I would be wary, and if they have ask them their opinions and voice your concerns about getting a thorough tune. Another thing to ask is if they have Baro and altitude correction, i.e. weather station hooked up (all dyno jets especially must have this). Also as if they are going to be able to print you your Power Graphs with "smoothing" turned all the way off. When smoothing is turned off you will be able to see all the giant dips and valleys in your power curve that is going to be felt in your foot and also make your car more jerky, less consistent, more prone to knock and less reliable over time to maintain the level of tune or peak output you are looking for in your tune.

Yeah I have a friend here in town, who knows the guy who tunes aat LDL speed shop which is very reputable usually costs around 600.00 for a dyno tune, but he got me the hook up over there for 350 or else i wouldnt deal with it for a while considering its not my daily just once a month type deal....

Sounds like a decent shop.
Only problem is I have noticed most shops that have not tuned at least 10-15 SR's have NO IDEA at all how to build the base timing maps to start off with. If you want I will build you a timing map only for 40 bucks, I usually don't do this but if you are interested you can try it out and compare it to the map your dyno shop ends up giving you...or you can load mine and have him work off my map as a base, which in the end should net you a lot more low end torque either way gl

yeah steve, im really thinking about getting you over here, or getting my car over there...just to have you tune it. At this point I'm finding it harder and harder to find a good reliable tuner who is consistent with what they know/say.
