the Reverse lock out or the Auto electrical was not correctly taken care of. Check the Reverse cable first, then the Auto wiring in the shifter area...

Unscrew the stupid electronic lock from your ignition. There is a safety mechanism that attaches to the ignition, there is a sensor on the shifter. Basically, it doesnt allow you to remove the key UNLESS the car is in park.

Come on man, you're converting from auto to 5-speed and cant figure that out? Sheesh...

And we need to know S13 or S14...

S13 = Electrical

S14 = Mechanical - If S14, remove the plastic trim and you'll see the cable...unclip/remove it, and Voila!

If S13, see what old_S13 said above.

Later - Brian

Its right behind the key on the S14. Its a cable tube (flexible, 1/8" or so) that feeds into a black plastic box that is directly behind the key. It should be held in by a couple screws. Simply unscrew it, and the mechanical wedge-shaped key-lock will never bother you again.

It looks like just unplugging it did the trick! Although, if I remove it, that would be weight reduction.

Yeah, I was going to build it (convertible), but decided on the 89 coupe instead. The convertible has some major flex. I'll use it for a parts car.

Auto cars have an extra lock that won't let you remove the key unless it's in park.
