Leaky Injector
|
![]() Well people I just got my N1 catback today and when I went to remove the old exhaust I saw that the previous owner had welded the exhaust to the catalitic converter.
I'm looking to replace the whole pipe, catalic converter, everything. My question is will a downpipe(frontpipe, different names on different websites) for a SR20det fit on the KA24DE ?? Will it bolt on with minor modifications ? or should I get a costum pipe? This would do the job ![]() Comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

KAs don't use downpipes. The header goes from the exhaust ports to the cat.
Dunno what to suggest for you aside from mebbe having a muff shop just whack it off.

Get a hot shot header and a high flow aftermarket cat to go between the header and exhaust. I went with random technologies cat. You should be able to get a hotshot header and cat for about 450.00 from different sources. Check the Zilvia links for help. Trust me don't get a custom job, they always leak and never fit just right. This aftermarket setup fits together better than my stock pieces ever did!!

I know that KA's don't use downpipes.
But is there a chance that the one in the picture would fit on the stock KA header? I don't have the money for headers, just spent $470 on the exhaust. I can't spent another $400 for at least 3,4 months. And I don't want the exhaust to lay around for so long. I guess I'll give backyardproductions a call, see what they tell me. tnx for the input.

It'll fit and yes, you'll need to make some alteration. I was talking to Russ Goggans the other night about this very thing. You'll need to put a RT cat (or a test pipe??) in place of your fake cat to make it work. I picked up a Project Silvia DP to do this with but it'll be a couple of weeks before I can even look at it. Otherwise I'd just do it and let you know. Ask Russ on the FA forums, he'll have better info about doing it than I do.

Yes it fits fine, go to projectsilvia, buy the downpipe and resonator combo. (cheap) Get it in the mail in like 2 days. Bolt it on and bail. But be prepared for the noise level if you're n/a, The resonator will make it a bit deeper but it'll still be loud as hell and backfire like a mofo.
Unless you are going turbo though i seriously would not recommend doing this setup as it is way overkill for an N/A car, you'd be disappointed....

Yeah that would be much better...what piece did you break, the stock cat?? If it's just the old exhaust was welded to the dummy cat just by the resonator to replace that, or did the previous owner take out the dummy cat and weld the exhaus tall the way up to the real cat..just a little confused.

I think he means that the exhaust pipe is welded to the dummy cat. In this case you could get a muffler shop to make a custom piece to go in place of this dummy cat when you bolt up your new exhaust. It should cost you about 25 bucks. Make sure they give you a gasket that fits!! The wrong size gasket will leak gases and get VERY annoying!!

Yeah that's what I was assuming as well, if that's the case I would get the resonator since it makes the exhaust note much smoother, then you can just use one of your stock exhaust gaskets when you put on your new exhaust and the gasket on the non welded side of the dummy and you're golden. I got a temporary gasket form a muffler shop because i misplaced one of mine and they gave me one of those ****ty paper ones, it started leaking 2 days later so i took off the resonator to replace the gasket and the friggin thing had disintegrated.

Well the resonator would be a good "filler" for that space but, wouldn't this increase back pressure? I thought the whole point was to gain power. And the Apex cat-back exhaust comes with its own resonator, I think two would be a bit overkill. Honestly you could go either way, but if your going to go with a downpipe from your stock header, get a high flow cat to fill the gap, you'll need one to comply with OBD II standards or your car will throw a check engine light. So for now to cut costs, just go with a small custom pipe and later either go with another resonator or a high flow cat, your choice. Also i would go with a Greddy header eventually with the downpipe that way you'll gain the look of crome to your engine bay and gain some decent power from the setup.
Just a suggestion.

Stay away from the Greddy header. supposedly it's prone to cracking...pos is you ask me. The hotshot header is better and won't crack on you. So, what was the verdict. Can i use a blitz downpipe with my stock KA header, a high flow cat, and my Blitz exhaust?

well I got a used pipe and cat cat and installed the exhaust yesterday and it seems fine, the only thing is the piece of cloth that was in the heatshield of the headers is burning because it comes in contact with the headers. But probably in a couple of days it will burn out completly.
