shoot i forget what the rough idle is caused by....I would check anything related to the air intake tract. Make sure there are no leaks.
The shimmy is probably the wheels or tires. If you goto a decent alignment shop, they can balance the tires and fix any alignment problems you may have. |

i second agree on the tires as far as the shimmying. I've had some crappy *** improperly warn down tires and had them on the front of one of my 240s and it shimmed and caused the steering wheel to move side to side like crazy. Another possibility are the bushings. If you're going at somewhat high speeds, the tc rod bushings may be what you want to replace. Even if it's not that, it's always good to get new ones. www.pdm-racing.com sells them for a good decent price and there have been good reviews on them since they provide a faster response. that's all i can think of as far as the shimmy. As for the idle, maybe the idle needs to be readjusted or air flow or something. Getting a new fuel filter might help since the old one might be somewhat clogged. Getting a good fuel injector cleaner or fuel system might help too if the fuel injectors are clogged. Rough idle is usally caused by lack of air and/or fuel mixture so something to do with the fuel or air system might need fixing or cleaning. Good luck. Hope my info helped somewhat.

Shimmy> Make sure wheels and tires are in *excellent* condition, the less wheel weights the better. This means having the balancing done at a quality place and making sure they understand how sensative the car is to balancing. The S13 is extremely sensative to balancing issues. Plus, the 89-90 had a replacement spring you could install in the steering rack: 48237-10V02. I installed this spring and it basically cured my 55 mph steering wheel shimmy. I warn you now though, that shimmy could also be caused by warped brake rotors. So, you really have to look at the entire system and cleanup issues while you go.
Idle> Its probably the AIV or EGR. The AIV is easy to clean and disassemble.. do that first, its usually the culprit. - Mike |

re: your idle... if none of the above (more common) fixes solves the idle... you may have a grounding problem somewhere. check/clean/tighten all the grounds that you can find, and it may help some.

I've received a lot of helpful tips and info from the more experienced people out there yet have given back to the less experienced as well. I hope my clutch install write up will be of use to many of you. I spent a lot of time writing it..West will be posting it sometime soon so look for it and tell me what you think.
