So I went home for my buddy's wedding this weekend, and dad gives me the keys to his 91 NX2000. Hella fun. My friend Chris back home is a little weasel and has a new WRX. So the guys don't really know how fast the NX is and want me to race him, and I tell them, it's only got a 7-8.5 second 0-60, and that Chris' WRX would easily beat me. However, 0-60 would be straight line, and so we're all going out to Mike's house, and Charlie's leading in his Subaru, which is just a legacy, (not fast) and pretty soon he pulls out to let me in front and Chris in back around 'cause it was racing time.

Yes this was street racing, however, it's Idaho, and out in Cougar Gulch, which is country roads, though they happen to be paved. There's hardly any cars, ever.

So I take off, knowing that the NX only has what 140 hp, and the WRX is 227. Funny thing is, whatever they did to the WRX suspension, (I think for more off-road dirt control) made it a lot less responsive through corners. In short, with a tightly cornered road (about 3 miles long), I was leading him by about a car length and more in some sections. In the straights he would catch up, but the corners I had him beat, hands down. Oh yeah, about 70 around hairpin corners throwing the back end out. heheheheh, sooooo fun. Dad was a little cranky about me wasting his studded tires. Oh yeah, that was the other thing. 70 mph with studded snow tires. Had I road tires, I probably would have left him even farther in the dust.

So Chris the weasel was impressed with the little tiny much less expensive Nissan. Just thought you guys should know, in case a WRX ever challenges you to race on a twisty road. And for added info, my Dad did test drive a WRX and found the suspension to be not very nice. We have a subi wagon (165 hp), and that seems to take corners under load a lot better. Just so you know I'm not talking out my ass.

A legacy is not a wrx....

WRX
http://www.edmunds.com/new....lin0018

Legacy
http://www.edmunds.com/new....lin0018

WRX = 227 hp at 3085 pounds

Legacy = 165 at 3345 pounds

WRX's handle as well as new mr2s... Trust me, I have researched.

Yeah, sorry about that. Charlie was driving the Legacy, which is why he pulled over and we whipped past them, NX - WRX. And I don't know about the WRXs' handling all that well. I think there's massive room for improvement.

The thing is, I've driven Dad's NX about 10 times my entire life. He never even let me touch it until Senior Prom in high school. Much less, I have never driven front wheel drive cars and to tell the truth, I was having a little trouble getting used to it. Then again, I guess I might be better at cornerning since all my high speed cornering experience has been in 2wd trucks that handle slightly better than a wagon with racing tires.

The other discrepency is Chris may not know how to drive the WRX that well, however he gets sideways on the corners without wrecking it. And he has had it for at least four months. I dunno. Either way, fun as ####.

BTW - NX is bone stock. I may modify it this summer and wait until dad drives it. Hehehe.

Yah, from what I know about the WRX (and almost every 4wd) is that you have to stomp them and stay on them. That is the only way to get the most out of them, if you drive them like an ff or an fr you won't keep up. You have to push and push and push some more, right up till the point you are about to lose it. (At which point, fuck it, you lose and awd it is gone, not as easy to recover as our fr's) but I take nothing away from the nx... I know that my boss has a wrx and complained it was slow, especially on takeoff, till he let me try it and I dropped the clutch at 4000 and took off like a bat out of ####... there is a lot of turbo lag in that car, you have to keep it up above 4000 in the revs or it dies pretty quick.

I know the WRX is fast in a strait line, I have seen a stock one run a 13.4 at the drag strip, as for handling , they are higher up than what would be good for handling, but this provides for plenty of travel for better off road capabilities.

You have remember that the WRX was made for sliding through mud and snow in rally races. Not drag racing or much road racing. Allthough I did see a couple at a local BMW Club autocross event (which is open to everyone not just Bimmers) and there were kickin ass. One of my dads employess owns a NX200 and they feel so light rev happy.
Oh and Fastnissan my name is Rory too.
