How do you go about car insurance?
I couldn't find much on the topic in the search function so I decided to create a thread.
I believe J-spec engines are illegal here in the states. If you are in a crash and the insurance comes to assess the damage, I am sure they will look for every reason possible to not cover the damage I.E. your illegal engine. Also if they do not notice the engine I am sure they will be looking to total your car with minor damages. I've heard that some companies let you insure the parts you have in your car, but I am sure they would not let you insure an illegal power train. How have you guys gone about your insurance? |

I see by your location its says PA....unless you live in Cali or even NY which is becoming stricter laws you dont have to worry. insuring after market parts I dont think companies do that but keep all your reciepts of things you buy and they might work with you in case something happens.

Your engine being illegal is not going to matter to them. Unless it is specifally written in your policy. Or unless you mention it to them.
I work for an insurance company btw.

You will get the value of OEM replacement parts on a standard policy.
Insuring aftermarket parts is done on an agreed value basis. You can usually ad this on top of your standard policy. They don't care what it is(Subs, Wheels, Motor), Just how much you want to insure.

^ He is correct.
If you don't insure it some companies have an aftermarket allowance. That is basically the maximum they will pay for uninsured aftermarket parts. I know the company I work for has a $1000 limit. Check your policy to figure out yours.
