i was wondering where i could like detailed instructions on the sr20 install in a s13. ive already searched many times and i have the sport compact car and import racer magazines with the swaps with them but they differ from each other and wanted to know the breakdown on what EXACTLY that i had to do. i am mechanically inclined and no most of whats going on. but i really like to know EXACTLY. thanks, joel

Here is what you have to do EXACTLY.

Pay.. EXACTLY the amount due to a shop to do it for you, if you already have most of the info, then what's left other then to acutally get your hands dirty. Like you said, almost, if not all the info is out there.

Just following the directions in SUPER-COMPACT-IMPORT-STREET-SPORT-RACER and you will be a-ok, because we all know that info is

Serious, what else do you want ? What EXACTLY is it that you need ?

i have a redtop sr20 going into a 91 240. but like i said the SUPER-COMPACT-IMPORT-STREET-SPORT-RACER magazine differ from each other in some areas. so i thought id ask guys that have actually done there own swap. and what all they needed and steps etc. or a website or something that does since you want to be an ass about it.

Do more research!

If you want exact, they got an SR install DVD on eBay .Seriously Its not rocket science, dive into it with the FSM, work at it, READ and you will figure it out. Its still going to take some sweat either way I didnt have exact info, only genereal. I really felt it was worth the effort - and learned the specifics when they came up,and I did. WELL worth it, you wont regret trying hard and learning

Plus when something may come up, if you just read instrutctions to install it, your probably going to have to READ instructions for everything else. RESPECT the SR ! Get to know it / Install it = You wont have to rely on anyone else. -> Always impressive

if you put it in yourself, there's a better chance you'll know how to fix it if it breaks...

I'm in the middle of an s13 sr swap into s13 right now.

I'm telling you this swap is easy!

You can't know EXACTLY until you start. Your request is kinda silly if you think about it. But i can understand your anxiety. You just gotto suck it up and START! Because once you begin wrenching, everything any article ever said about the swap makes perfect sense to you now.

Get a good soldering iron. Maybe i'm just impatient, but I think the pen type 40 watt soldering irons are really slow. I bought a Weller 100something watt gun for about 20 dollars and let me tell you this thing is cool as hell.

Don't get frustrated ( you really shouldn't anyway ) If you get stuck somewhere just relax and take it as a learning experience.

Places I got stuck:

The brown connector by the battery-The SR harness has a brown wire that you're supposed to splice into a wire on the KA brown male plug. I could not find the color on the KA male plug that I was supposed to mate to the brown wire off the sr harness. Then I guessed that maybe most of the write-ups were done using dohc S13s. Then I remembered Dave coleman had the same damn car as me...so I followed his instructions (which worked)
--note: but then again you have the dohc so this prolly doesn't matter to you =P

Heather Hoses: make sure you get reducer fittings so you can fit the heater hoses off the engine to the heater core ends (the heather core ends are smaller...i forget the sizes but they can be found here www.nissanperformancemag.com ) I just looped the heater hoses together eliminating the heater all together.....though i'll prolly change it later when I have time to take the intake manifold off again.

Cluster:

I've got a type x cluster that came with my clip. My car was a sohc car with HUD. The harness for my car's cluster doesn't plug into my new cluster

Solution: Haven't figured that juan out yet... =P Any ideas anyone?

Other than that it's just a matter of running out of money or time. lol In my case it was both! So make sure you have plenty of both!

Good luck and make sure to do some kind of motorsport with your car (i suggest autocross) because your return on investment will be sooo much more satisfying. Also....performance needs will drive modifications...instead of jdm bling lust driving the modifications. After my first autocross I wish I had waited to buy the SR LATER! But the clip was already in my garage so it's all good. I think too often people buy really really expensive stuff for their cars...and all they can say about it is "Well....it feels fast on the street." This leads to being dissatisfied with their investment and losing interest.

This might be common knowledge but when you solder heat the wire up until the solder melts onto the wire. Don't touch the solder to the soldering iron because this will give you a bad connection. Make sure to keep the heatshrink away until you're ready to shrink it though.lol
