Borg Warner EFR series?

I've been doing a little research on a turbo upgrade for the near future. I've decided to stay bottom mount as my end state for power is anything less than, but relatively close to, 400hp.

I've seen some interesting builds done with a GT2871 .64 a/r that have reached and surpassed that mark. But, the more I read about the BW EFR series, the more I'm interested. Specifically the 6258 model.

I've heard (but I can't find details) that the 6258 will fit the stock SR20DET manifold with "very, very slight modifications." So I'm wondering what that means exactly.

Has anyone tried this yet? If so, what other considerations for fabrications are there? i.e. oil/water lines etc.

New EFR Turbos. - Nissan Road Racing Forums

read... it wont, the guy is going bottom mount and is using a tomei manifold cut at the flange and angled about 45 degree's and re-welding it together for clearance. There is no off the shelf bottom mount manifold that will work with the bottom mount, and it wont clear the oil fittings on the block on the stock iron manifold.

Thanks for the link. I'm subscribing to see the end results. If his dyno's on pump gas are impressive enough, I might take the same venture. I have a few months to research alternatives before I pull the trigger on my next choice of turbo.

Actually on the Stock Manifold it will work. Here is a quote from konjiki7

"Stock manifold - The bov on the compressor hits the #1 runner. When clocked the bov makes contact with the water neck fitting. Water neck can be modded to accommodate."

I read konjikis posts. Loaded with incorrect part numbers and measurements. The stock iron manifold WON'T work. Period.

I have the EFR 6258. On my SR20DET. Im using an Ebay OBX top mount manifold that i flipped upside down(cut reweld flange making it a bottom mount.) cut off, and turn the turbo flange 20 degrees. did it in an afternoon. Fits like tits, and I'm using s14 taka oil/coolant lines. The engine is in a bmw. Whole manifold with labor I'm only in for like 300 bucks, and shi*t is tight looking.

Stock turbo manifold position is WAY too far back. EFR's have a big ass that sticks out further back. Trust me, I have MUCH time into figuring a manifold solution that isnt 1500 bucks. Ill have some pics in the near future.

The t4 manifold they make isnt news. 1550 for a manifold wasnt in my budget. Its a nice piece of work. Good for the guy who lacks DIY skills.

The engine is in a BMW. Topmount was a no go.

Some great new options available for SR and KA using the EFR's ran one on my S13 a couple years back while doing some testing for Full Race and BW.

BW EFR stuff is nice for sure, but they are expensive and have lonnnggg lead times to get, why not stick with garrett like you said? The GT2871 or 2876 would be perfect for what you want to do, and are more compact than the EFR stuff, if your looking for a great place to buy look here at cheapturbo.com

We've been doing a lot of GTX series turbos recently for customer cars. Hot deals for SR20, ka and rb options!
