rb20 in s13, maf problem?

ive been having a weird problem with my rb i swapped it into a hatch of mine it ran perfect before now its running weird, unplug the maf and the exhaust clears up has good vacuum just has the idle surge from maf not being hooked up, then you plug it in dies right down and almost stalls then just runs balls disgusting rich.. black smoke out of the exhaust all that jazz.. so im thinking either o2 sensor or maf? dunno what do you think? i tried cleaning the maf and it didnt do anything
