hicas light on.....help

I have a 92 fastback w/hicas. I was recently rear ended. The whole front of the newer passat was smashed in. The passat was the car behind me, and my rear bumper is bent in kind of bad. After the accident, I noticed my hicas light was on. So my questions are:

1. Could that collision might have killed my hicas?

2. Is it safe driving my fastback with the hicas light on?

p.s.
I did use the search and have not found enlightment.

Check your powersteering fluid it could be low. The light will come on if there
is not enough fluid.

I think the Light means it's in fail safe mode(no rear steering) so it should be safe, but why not put the HICAS computer into diagnostic mode and have it flash the problem code to you.

Depending on what the problem is, what sensor is bad etc, i would junk the hicas with an elimator bar.

I currently have hicas on my car, but if something that isnt cheap to fix brakes i'm going to rip the whole damn thing off. but for now i love it
