Fresh fuel smell in cabin!
My fuel filler neck is super loose inside my car. I don't know if it's supposed to be loose or not to be honest. I live in Oregon so I rarely see my fillerneck/gascap but is it supposed to be loose? When I say loose, I mean if I put my hand on the cap, and shook it, it doesn't even feel like it's really attached to anything, but it does jump back to the spot where it was.
I went under the car and reached for where the filler neck and hose connect and there is NO clamp. Can anyone else confirm that there is no clamp? (No reason there shouldn't be) I'm still getting around 26-27 MPG with it, but the gas smell lingers randomly. (Can't tell if I take a right, left, or accelerate when it smells, it's completely random) And the smell is ONLY inside the cabin. I don't smell it outside, in the engine bay, or even burning on the tranny when I'm driving. It's a 95' Zenki. Pictures would be nice! Thanks. |

Quote:
Chances are one of the lines going in/out the top of the fuel pump is dry and cracked, or the ring that goes around the fuel pump to seal the lid is shot.

Here's a diagram...

If you haven't changed out the fuel pump. It won't be the tank ring. go with filler neck it shouldn't have play the way you say it does. I've changed out plenty of fuel pumps on Nissans. And as soon as you take out the pump assembly. Ive realized the threads on some of the bolts strip just slightly and the ring expands so I recommend you get new bolts and ring. If you go that rout. That's why I say check the neck it probably needs a clamp.

Well I put a clamp on the filler neck where it meets the hose. LOL, that's all that was missing. Checked the fuel pump... It was annoying, my o ring was beauuuttiiiful. Seems like I got a beautiful se zenki for 3200 with no more problems! My filler neck is still loose but my uncle who's a tech says its loose enough, but not off the bolt.
