Nissan DataScan users O2 question

I am running Nissan datascan for my stock sr20det and on my O2 sensor doesn't seem to be working (from what I can tell.) The display shows the O2 sensor gauge running at 8 from 9 and it changes back and forth very slowly and that is where it always runs. If it helps to know the car is really rich and tends to backfire from time to time. If anybody wants to see my data log or playback let me know! Thanks guys

I cannot remember what the switchpoint should be but it should flicker back and fourth for it to be working. It could be reading incorrectly though. If your getting a reading you may just try changing the sensor. If you get no reading its usually the wiring is broken somewhere.

Honestly get a wideband, they are worth having just so you can actually view your air fuel ratio.

Now for other things that come to my mind. You say your car is running rich. How do you know this? Black smoke or are you just relying on smell? It does not take much more a of an afr over 14.7 if you dont have a cat to smell rich. A misfire will make a rich smell. So its not necessarly a rich problem. Also your o2 sensor only works at idle and crusing speeds under light throttle and load. Stock sr's tend to run rich under load so you may just deal with that.

A vid can be worth a 1000 words. I dont have datascan on my new computer and I wont get around to messign with my other one until monday. You should get some video screen capturing software and put your log up on youtube or photobucket and put it in this thread so people can view the consult gauges. If not Ill give you my email and I can look at your log monday. You can also make a vid of the car having its problems. I have seen almost every problem there is and wouldnt mind looking at yours.

SR20DET idle then drive thru town - YouTube
This is it running and driving if you wanna see my logs pm me your email and I will email it to you. And as for the rich part goes it is clearly rich it smells of it terrible and it will burn my nose aha. You may be right though and it may not be that rich but I don't think it is running how it should be I can video the car running and driving if you want me to do that also. But I wasn't aware that my car could accept a wideband kit without some sort of tunable ecu. If you would like to go a little more in depth about using a wideband with my car. Thanks a bunch!

If there is no signal (bad O2 sensor or disconnected), the O2 reading says .32V constant.
If there's a small signal, your O2 is going bad or wrong o2 sensor.
If your o2 is good, the signal should twist up and down like 5-10 times a second.

Good luck.

Your o2 sensor isnt flickering like you would normally expect it to. The most out of place think I noticed is your battery was staying around 11.5 volts. sitting it should be at 12 when not running and should be 13-14.5 when running. Your alternator is not doing its job or your battery is badly damaged not allowing for good voltage. Voltage plays a major roll in your injectors function. Latency is very effected by voltage.

Alright 4x4, here is an update I found that my starter nut was extremely loose and causing sparks to fly everywhere I fixed that problem today. I do however agree that my battery is possibly badly damaged because it got knocked over one day and just got told this about twenty mins by my buddy who did this. Gonna bite the bullet go pick up an optima tomorrow see how well she performs tomorrow and log some more data. Thank you for your help I was not aware that low voltage could cause such problems with these newer cars been working on old school stuff all my life. Happy to learn the new and improved systems though!

Keep in mind that the alternater should still have been putting out more than that so you may have damaged it too.
