Quick question about brake Master Cylinder - Zilvia.net Forums | Nissan 240SX (Silvia) and Z (Fairlady) Car Forum

Context:

I got my car painted and rust fixed last november. They had to remove master cylinder. When putting it back, front lines were empty of brake fluid. When trying to get the car back on the platform towing, I depressed brakes noticing no brake response. I managed to bring back my car home with hand brake.

Now, yesterday, I was getting my car ready for this auto-x season and was attempting to bleed my brakes to replace fluid with Motul RBF600. Rear 2 calipers bleed properly, but I experienced problems with front calipers.

Problem:

Both front calipers did not bleed ANY fluid. Pumped the brakes like an *** for 1 hour and did not bleed a drop. Did not bleed either from ABS valve. Fluid never went down in reservoir.

Diagnostic?

Could it be my MC is shot? Proportion valve? What do you guys think?

sounds like your lines may be dry. i'd say take the m/c off and bench bleed it (as though it were new) and reinstall. Then follow normal bleed procedure - driver rear, pass rear, pass front, driver front. Make sure you're refilling your m/c along the way... in the end, you should be money.

ABS.. forgot how to bleed that.. but it does need to be done.

BEnch bleed the master: still no fluid in front calipers...

Lines are empty... Dunno what to do...

MC pumps so I guess it's okay...

i would assume that your brakes felt fine since you didn't have a problem before. when you bench bled the MC did any fluid come out? when you bled the brakes, did you do it yourself, or did you have someone seal the bleed screw every time you pumped the brakes? i'm not sure what's wrong, but it shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

Fluid came out of MC.

And Sealed the bleed valve on each pump...

Open valve - depress - hold - close valve -release pedal
repeat many times

well shit man, i don't know. do the brakes even work? you may need new lines in front, they may be clogged or it might be that the abs unit is clogged.

No seriously, you think my ABS unit is fucked...? That means I'd have to replace the MC too... AND the brake lines...

i think you bleed the ABS unit before the calipers, anyway.

if the abs unit is fucked it just won't work. if it doesn't work, fluid just passes through. even if it has air in it, it won't come out until you do an abs stop, the brakes bleed normaly otherwise. of course it could be clogged, there are lots of small passeges in there. you could try disconnection the fittings on the brake lines farther and farther down the system to see where the fluid stops coming out.

Then follow normal bleed procedure - driver rear, pass rear, pass front, driver front. Make sure you're refilling your m/c along the way... in the end, you should be money. Hmmm ABS.. forgot how to bleed that.. but it does need to be done.
