dont you hate this!!!

as some of you mite hav read in the GB forum....i was gonna get a set of HEs from option imports until my motor blew(yeah sad i know) whats worse, i pick up a perfectly good replacement motor for cheap....(i kno its good cause it ran very strong in my friends car until it was pulled) so i go to a shop to get it put in(since the dead motor had been pulled out already)...2 days later my dad tells me that they called saying stuff needed to be replaced(i had originally said max $500 budget to do labor since no parts needed) the next morning my dad says that they had to add another $650 for replacement parts and labor (crank pulley, oil seal, the keys(half moon pieces that hold the crank pulley) V/C gasket and belts) and an engine wash, im like WTF!!! he said he OK'd them to do the work....now this is bull shit. in a situation like this, would you have your folks pay or what. depending on how i handle this, i may have to move-in with someone(yeah prolly get kicked out)!!!

damn. that sucks. I HATE having other people work on my car for that exact reason. You don't know what they are doing and then they start doing shit that you didn't want them to.

That blows.

It's only 150 bucks extra, not worth any potential family problems IMO

update

for that price in work, i could have gotten a low mileage S14 motor and swapped over the ODB-1 items for the same amount.

Yah, dirty junk yard engines, oil leaks and squealing belts are awesome. What were those rip off artists thinking. If the shop is reputable I'd thank them for looking out for you. They probaly saved you a lot of hassles in the long run. As for the money, welcome to the real world. Life sucks. Talk to me when you've got over 30,000 in student loans. I'm sure you pay rent, right?

mention it to your parents if your sure you told them about you budget, if they offer to help take it...if not carry on. get a job, its not like your parents havent already spent enough on you, you know--raising you and all--
650 isnt worth losing a relationship

You got ripped!!! All that extra parts you mentioned are cheap and the labor to put those in on an engine that is out of the car is quick and easy. Sounds like your dad doesn't know anything about cars. I would make him pay for it since he's the one that swallowed their BS.

crank pulley? why the fuck would you need a new one? if the motor was running in your buddies car, I can't see why you would need another. The key for the pulley? Why the hell would you need that as well? The shop should be able to resuse the old one without any problems, unless they lost it. Belts I would reccomend, but they are cheap, and putting them on the KA is super easy. Shouldn't take more than a hour ($60 bucks) <- depending on what the shops hourly rape rate is.

I think you are getting bent over buddy, take someone you know who is a mechanic and visit the shop. Have them detail to you why the parts were needed, and ask to see the old parts.

yeah sounds like the shop is trying to rip you off. also sounds like you have a chance to take advantage of your parents paying for your car. I'd say take it. my parents don't know yet that they are paying for half my buildup, yeah that visa they gave me for emergencies. well I think a blown ka in needs of building up for turbo and then turboing it is an emergency.

Stealing from your own parents? Taking advantage of their ignorance?Fucking pitiful. You are as low as they come. Go get a job and earn your shit. I wouldn't be surprised if you turned out to be someone that scammed people on here for parts if you do this shit to your own family.

[UPDATE] monday is fast approaching and it better be finished so i can pick my car up. my dad gave in to pay the amount of work he authorized (damn straight!!!). o yeah i had mechanics who know there stuff check the motor out. had UTi check it over. too bad danny(sil-80 wit 4lug gewalts) was busy on another project. i kno the motor was fine along with the crank pulley. imma ask for the original parts and have him show me why it needed to be replaced. because i know the keys were worn but that was the only thing, other than belts.

hopefully mike will have a set of HEs on reserve for me to get in march during the GB

Haha i shud say "since all the extra work is needed, put your word that this motor wont go bad for 4years"

I have a job dipshit. I'm not stealing from my parents either. when they get the bill in a month i'll be paying it most likely. and don't call my fucking parents ignorant. it was a fucking joke get over it. no reason to make shit like this personal asshole. you don't know me from adam. you don't know if I have a job or not. I work my ass off over 60 hours a fucking week. I pay for my sisters fucking apartment at college because she can't afford it. so fuck off about me stealing from my parents which I'm not doing.

hey Nismo quit bickering, no thread jacking either.

I finally got the car back today. total cost $979. (they cut $200 off cuz they did unauthorized work, in short i got free labor). saw the crank pulley, It was basically fux0red to hell. so ill give him that. they replaced the entire pulley system and belts.but yeah the work is good. he gave me a warranty on the parts replaced.but hes telling meeh the PS pump is leaking badly and will cost 590 for a rebuld kit and 980 for a OE replacement. i told him dont do anymore work. I come to pick the car up i start it up. very rough idle. while heading home it feels like i lost a cylinder. horrible idle and lacking power. i pull over and pop the hood. damn tech forgot to put in sparkplug wire 2-3 all the way in!!! I called and left a message. hopefully i will get a call back regarding that. pops paid the difference he ok'd the work to be done. he was really pissed about that(go figure) so now the motor runs fine. and i lucked up. im still able to get the HEs by end of this month (woohoo as long as mike doesnt end the GB in time)
