If they are as tough as mine were, either an air impact or you will need to wedge a junk socket or something similar in between one of the flywheel teeth and dowel pins on the engine and a good ole breaker bar with a pole for some leverage, easy as cake.

lol. Brings back memories.
What type of air gun an what is the torque rating? I used a harbor freight air gun and got all my bolts off. I wasn't able to get them on the first try. It took me 10 tries for each bolt. I use a 2 gallon air compressor, so it took me about 15 minutes per bolt. Keep drilling at those bolts with the impact until they come off. Or do what they have suggested ^

leave the dow in and pry off it on the flywheel....i had a buddy with a huge screwdriver hold it against the dow preventing the flywheel from moving and i popped everyone loose easily.

^^^This, I usually stick one of the tranny bolts in and a pry bar to keep the flywheel from turning. Impact wrench since its torqued to about 100 ft lbs (atleast on SRs, KA's slight lower IIRC). If you wanna be a man, a long ass wrench with a cheater bar on it.

![]() Also, another way to prevent the flywheel from spinning is to put a socket wrench with a long arm/extension on the crank pulley bolt and let it wedge against the ground or the frame rail. |

Thanks for the help everbody, I hadnt been able to get back to you on this due to headaches and forgetfulness of postings. I know this was awhile back, but I just ended up towing it to a shop :P the trans and clutch are fine now. The main reason I wanted to change it was because my car would just idle in first from time to time and because of my lack of knowledge I thought it was either the clutch or trans. and it turns out it was a stupid clutch fluid dampener thing. removed it in one morning once I knew what I was dealing with. It wasnt easy learning about it since theirs not alot of info about it on the internet, and not everyone owns a 240 lol. Thank Goodness for youtube!

So you wasted money to fix a problem that had been covered many times? Try searching harder next time.
They call this the tech section for a reason you know...

I paid to have the trans rebuilt (I didnt have reverse) and bought a new clutch while i was at it. I removed the stupid clutch fluid dampener myself once i found out about it. The mechanics that rebuilt my trans and every other mechanic I talked to didnt know what was making my car idle, if they did I mightve figured it out sooner. Apparently its a 240 thing, and how was i supposed to look up something that i didnt even know existed?? everyone and everything told me it was a transmission problem when i tried explaining it.
Its all good now. |

You can also use half inch drive ratchet and peck with a good heavy hammer but make sure socket is on bolts snuggly while a friend wedges a big flat screwdriver in flywheel teeth this may help you next time if you dont have access to air tools
