It is not obligatory, but if you are planning on running high boost it is an extremely good idea.
I highly suggest you do some research, KA-t.org has a large amount of info on this subject. |

I would be uneasy going over 8psi. I would strongly recommend buying another KA and doing a mild rebuild and putting the turbo on that engine. Use what you have now to daily then build something nice that will last. You will save money and time in the long run.

Also it would help if you specified what size turbo you plan on running and power you want to get out of it. You will need tune, injectors, maf, and other odds and ends to make the car reliable.
