buying VLSD - what to check on it.

im about to pick up a hicas VLSD from a local guy with shafts for 200$. - is that a goo price? - since i will be able to look at it in person before buying it, i would like to check it out to make sure it is good, and actually is a LSD. how can i be absolutly sure it is a vlsd? the orange sticker? if i pull the cover off what should i look for?

any help is appreciated.

the orange sticker is one way. Also the rear cover will have a bulge out at the bottom because of its larger fluid capacity. u can also tell from the output shafts.

i bought it tonight, he spun where the shaft goes in and both output shafts go in the same direction. how should i check for play? i took his word for it that it was good and real. he said if i find that its bad or anythinghe will buy it back. he's a real cool guy.

i might buy a practicly brand new greddy exhaust from him for $350-400.

when you spin it if there is rotational play before it starts moving the other stuff, i.e. if you spin the input shaft and it has some play before it starts to spin the output shafts means the gears are worn down bad.

did he tell you how many miles were on it? VLSDs are not repairable.

try to turn the output shafts in differnet directions. if u can, then its not a VLSD, or its worn out. when i tried to turn mine in different directions it was very difficult.

enjoy ur VLSD. its very nice compared to open diff, specially on u-turns =D

theres not much play at all. you can turn it just a small amount before the output shafts start to move. i do not know how many miles are on the diff. but it is prety clean. idk. hopefuly i can get alot of good use from it.

so will this make me be able to be at a stoped position, and whip the car around 180* from a standstill?? i want to be able to do that; it just looks cool.
