![]() Seriously looking for help here, I've had this SOHC ka-t done for what seems like forever (5 years), but have yet to tune and drive it on the street due to other factors (mainly two kids). Anyway I am determined to get it running and finished this year since its about time I get it done.
I'm looking for some help identifying a noise, to me it sounds like rod knock, but it doesn't have the rhythmic increase the defines rod bearings. Could it be a crank bearing? Just looking for help, don't want to roll into the tuner with some bad bearings. Also please note, this un-tuned other then adjustment for larger injectors and MAF. I'm prepared to pull the motor and replace the bearings/other parts, I just want to drive this car. Here's a video link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g--S5d8rog

From the exhaust it does sound like rod knock, a lil, but it also sound like timing. Go to the front of the engine and listen with a screw driver etc. to your ear. for us, the camera, rev the engine to 3krpm keep it steady also remove the oil cap, it lets the sound out.
you can try the slack test, by rotating the engine past tdc for each cylinder and push down on the piston. listen for a clack and feel for any movement.
