OK we can all agree that the pic below is badass and should be what the next GT-R should look like......

.....well Nissan released photo's of it's GT-R Concept car and as you can see below it's a HUGE dissapointment (atleast to me it is) I like the rear alittle but the front is the ugliest thing I have seen, it shares way to many lines with the new Z (i like the new Z but the Z and gt-r need to be more different) The good news is by the look of it they wanted it to have more "sporty" lines to it so it would sell better here in the states (that's why i think they did the drastic change in looks) The bad news is, if the front end look's like that, would you want one? Anyway I'm sure alot of thing's will change by the time we see a production GT-R but if that's the front end theme then I guess the last great GT-R was the R34!!!
- allright that's my rant

First thing i notice about both new models is they are both VERY different from the old ones (especially the Z) and i dont think the old models needed any great change of looks. I mean the Z and Skyline are 2 of the best lookin cars there are. I mean that Z looks like an Audi TT now more than it does a Z , IMO. Last thing the designers needed to do was start making them look like anything else. And this futuristic look is all a bit samey. Still gorgeous cars though but they`ve changed into something else.

I totally agree, the skyline had a unique look. Nothing out there could match its smooth lines and agressive stance. I'm not down with having to flip a coin over skyline or Z.

I have to agree with that as well. For a moment there, I thought it was the new Z-car with skyline-style tailights. I love the first pic, even though it's not as aggressive-looking and the lines aren't as sharp as they are on the R34.

Read what I said, the first pic is what was thought to be the next GT-R, the first pic is fake, the other set of pic's are the real Concept (unfortunately) I thought it was common knowledge about that first pic sorry i did'nt elaborate that it was an old rumor

hey guy your a little out of date. the new skyline is going to be a 4 door family sedan for about 30grand. its gonna compete with the bmw 330. and itl have about 270hp. its also gonna be an infinity and will be called the g35 i think. i know its a letter and a double digit number like all the other infinities except the qx4. any who im getting off topic. theres no way they would make someithing that radical looking. they might sell something similar over in japan but here in america its stricktly the g35. and its final. i have a gripe about the g35 though. ill see if i can breing a pic but it lost the cool 4 round brake lights and has something more conventional. at least itll be 30grand.

That is true, the new Skyline is a four door car, but that is NOT the Skyline GT-R. From what I have heard, the new GT-R is not going to look at all like the present four door Skyline.

The skyline and GT-R names are being seperated, that's why NO WHERE in any of my post's did I say skyline. The G35 is the new skyline, this is the GT-R concept that has been shown today.

man, the respectable skyline name is going down to nothing now to me. ppl criticize my 240 a lot (cuz they're idiots) n i'm just like "just wait, a couple years from now u'll bow down to the NISSAN name," i don't like where they're heading now though. i could understand that first pic being the way to go b/c the new s15 body kind of moved that way, even though i would like the previous versions better. i know the nissan production team is probably trying to be "different" or "revolutionary" for nissan, but i don't think they're doing the right thing at all. n once again we get a crappy version of one of nissan's top cars as an infiniti that looks nothing like the skyline that we all love. f*ck sh*t f*ck, that pretty much sums up how i feel about that new skyline gt-r, i know i'm still young, but i guess u can call me old fashioned.

Well, most automakers these days seem to stick to a similar design for all their cars. Think VW or BMW. I think Nissan is following in their footsteps. I don't like it either.

umm skylines have always had a 4 door model. that's how it started out. the gtr and gts are the sport models. here is a little tib bit a lifted from a web page.

"During the 1960's, the Japanese racing scene was striving to catch up with
high performance racing machines of Europe origin. One manufacturer called
Prince developed the first Japanese prototype racing machine, named the R380.
With a powerful in-line six cylinder DOHC engine mounted amidships under a low
and sleek body, the R380 won the 1966 Japanese Grand Prix race event and
established several world speed records in the following year. The Prince
company merged with Nissan, and unveiled a special 4-door sedan Skyline model
during the 1968 Tokyo Motor Show. Priced at almost double that of other
Skylines in the stable, it was transplanted with a de-tuned powerplant of the
R380 racer's unit. This hot-blooded Skyline was launched into the market in
February 1969. "

70's gtr

*edit*
and like that was stated b4, they are spliting the GTR and skyline platforms. but they are still going to produce the R34 GTR and i guess GTS-T and GTS25-T till the new GTR comes out. i forgot what the body code for it's going tobe.

Allright I used my feeble editing skills to blend the Concept GT-R and the first pic, I know there's some stuff wrong with my photoshoped version (actually I used paint ) but I really don't feel like making it perfect. i despised the new concept gt-r a little while ago, now i think it's grown on me since i've looked at it, but i think of it as being its own car rather than a skyline gt-r.

From a business point of view, I can see how it makes sense to combine the Z and GT-R platforms. Still the new skyline looks kind of disappointing.

Giving it a more "skyline-like" front facia would help a lot though. Anyway, the GTR is going to be sold mostly in Japan, and maybe some day brought over here, so its what they think that's really important. I think Japans styling trends are usually different than what's going on here.

That type of styling might be the "next big thing" over there, and it could sell like hotcakes. Who knows what they are thinking.
