5 speed Swap Question
Ok I'm starting my 5 speed swap soon and have all the parts but I was looking through the service manual and found this
now i have a few questions about that part. 1. What the hell is that? 2. What does it do? 3. Is it really needed for the 5 speed swap? |

would they have put it in there if it wasnt needed. shit I know people that all their career they try to eliminate lil parts like a screw, that will end up saving the company millions down the road, now by eliminating that my friend, would make me (nissan) BILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLIONS. so um yah its needed. looks like it would help support the shaft, and its got a gasket so im sure it is lubing the shaft and also by removing it you would be letting lube in the bellhousing. y, does yours not have it or what?

I think he thinks from the pic, that it just sits "out there". as a seperate peice from the tranny. I have done the the sr/ka tranny swap twice, and the ca/ka once. They both are very similar. That thing that you think is needed for a 5spd swap, is just a casing inside the bellhousing that slides over the imput shaft. There are five bolts that connect it to the bellhousing, then there are two C clips behind that. This part is one of the two sections needed to disconect the bellhousing from the tranny. This part you talk of, is the tranny, and not a "5spd swap part".

The piece you have circled is part of the transmission, unless you removed it for some reason you don't need a new one. You can remove it if you want, but the throwout bearing will be riding on the input shaft and the 2.5 quarts of gear oil you just poured in will be swimming in the bellhousing.

Isnt that the tranny seal? Well lets just put it this way, when i blew my KA tranny, I punched a hole on that metal plate and had fluid leaking thru that damn thing.
