Exclamation Torquing 231 lb\ft Axel Nut

The FSM calls for 170-231 lb\ft of torque for the 36mm main axel nut, how do I torque this to the factory setting? My torque wrench and the ones at the auto store only go up to 140.

Should I just use the Dewalt electric impact wrench Ive been using to tighten it up nice and snug?

How do I measure this amount of force?

its an axle nut. impact it on, put the pin in, and you're done. that is, unless you don't HAVE pins for your axles (cause S13's do).

HA! I wish I would have known the torque specs when I replaced my hub. I just used my beastly strength a gigantic ratchet and a big pipe to make it longer. The pin has kept it in so far, so hopefully I guessed right.

just get a two foot breaker bar and stand on it or something. its not rocket science...
"ok i way 180lbs, therefore if i stand with all of my weight 1.25ft from the fulcrum on the breaker bar i will be applying enough torque."
torque = force x distance
so divide 230 ,or whatever you want it torqued down to,by your weight to get the distance to stand on the breaker bar
sometimes simple things work best.

Actually if you go to a major auto parts store ie: pepboys, kragen, autozone. YOu can rent a torque wrench that goes that high. I think my torque wrench goes to like 150-180 or someshit I just went to autozone and rented one for free all they ask for is a deposit ie: credit card but you wont be charged.

you guys, do you honestly think that nut will come off with that huge pin in place? impossible. and the flip side. do you think that you have enough power to break that axle? hell no.

I impacted mine on when doing my five lug swap and I must have overdone it because the rear end got super hot and I think I was frying my bearings. I loosened it and torqued it to 150. I think the FSM asks for 158-180.

I always just torques to 150ft lb's (max on torque wrench), and then turned it another ~1/8 turn past that.

fulcrum is the center of rotation. in this case, the nut.
