What's up everyone. i wanted to see if you guys can give me different tests to check if the egr valve is working or not...I searched and all I found was to press the plate under the egr and the engine should stutter...and it did stutter...but I need more tests to make sure that ill pass...Thanks everyone...

also do any of you guy know where another TEST ONLY place i can take it to in the east bay area...im from pittsburg...

Check of the egr has vacuum. Remove the hose that goes directly to the EGR, and blip the throttle see if there is vaccum. If no vaccum(if vaccum, EGR system is okay), trace the hose see if it's connected, or check if there is a BB somewhere in the line.

connect a vacuum hand pump directly to the egr valve. when you pump it the engine should stumble or die. You know the egr is passing gas when you manually push down the pintle, but make the pintle moves with the strength of vacuum.

Oh yeah, using with ^ said, you can blip the throttle with your finger underneath the egr to see if the diaphram moves. When you check for vaccum, put your finger on the line, and check for a slight suction.. This is a poor man's way of doing things, or if you're just too lazy to get the proper tools to do them the "right" way(me).

Thanks for the help guys...Im gonna go down to kragen tomorrow to get a vaccum hand pump...how much do those usually run...thanks again everyone...

Sears has them for about $30 which also comes with a brake bleeding kit. If you try the "poor man's" method, you don't need a vaccum pump.

damn dood. dont spend 30 bux on it..you will probably never need it again. see if autozone rents them out, or just go to a smog shop and tell them to "pump your egr" they shouldnt charge you more than 5 or 10 bucks if they're shady. i'd do it for free.

My friend has one so i borrowed it and hooked it up to the line that goes directly to the egr valve and i pumped it and the engine almost died. So I pretty sure it works so now im gonna go to a test only lane to go get it smogged...thanks everyone for your help...

oh yeah Ritz...how much do you charge for a pretest...and the real test as well...thanks

If you're willing to drive an hour.... I'll knock off $20 from $69.95=$49.95+8.25 state cert. If you don't pass, you get a free retest. Just for the hell of it you may want to add some fuel additive (Gaurenteed to pass fuel emission additive) to "help" your car to pass.
