240 right?? no CV's up front, so that cant be it. check ur lug nuts......when they loosen up it can sound just like a bad CV joint. dont drive it until u ensure the lug nuts r tight cuz i've seen many a wheel come off!! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/butbut.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':but:'> if ok, jack up front end and check that wheel brgs r tight. grab top and bottom of tire and wiggle......if there is a "clunk-clunk" movement ur wheel brgs r bad. fix soon, but ok to drive for short while. if brgs r bad the wheel/hub assy can move and rub something to cause a "click" sound. just some ideas!
PS is this click while turning on smooth surface?? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]()

Axles can go bad if you hit a really bad pothole or a curb. Or if someone else did. It doesn't matter how many miles and what year your car is. I had a car with 32K that the axles went down on.
If this doesn't happen only when you turn the wheel, it could also be just that you have a nail in your tire and it's making a clicking noise every time it touches the ground. |

When I turn the front wheels I sometimes hear a clicking noise coming from the wheels.
I thought its from the CV boots, but I checked for grease and there wasn't any. ANy other reasons? The noise only comes when I turn the wheel a lot.

You mean the axles are bad?? This is a '95 240SX LE (CDN spec) with only 116k kilometers (~77k miles) on it. Is this normal?

Before you start pulling crap apart. Get your bushings lubed. This includes the lower tie rod, inner tie rod, as well as any parts involved in the steering effort. If the noise still persists, then I'd start looking at the stuff the other members mentioned.

before u do anything, (if you have sexy hub caps like mine), check air pressure, sometimes the tire don't have enough air in it, and it's pressing against the hub caps. also, make sure your hub caps are lined up with the air stem, i never knew the caps had to line up... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='

I think Zelda and mb hit it right on. If you hear the noise (like mb said: click, click, click) when you are reversing or slowly driving forward with the wheel turned almost all of the way, it is probably your T/C Rods. Get under there and see if those bushings are shot...

Probably the bushings in the front. Mine make that noise some times....like a "cracking of the knuckles" sound...."thump...thump...thump"
Also, a broken steel belt on a tire will make noise. M
