Go ahead, make fun

Well, im going to do it.

I want to put a 350Z muffler on my 240. I dont know why, but i just do. Something different. You can get them for a steal off ebay, and its going to have to be mounted sideways with some creative plumbing to bring the tips out side by side in the same cutout, but once i measure and check for sure, im thinkin its doable. I wonder how it will sound.......im going to be putting my header and high flow cat and resonator on at the same time..

Commence flaming procedures........now.

those mufflers are huge. your gonna have a hell of a time not only making it fit, but making a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler do what you need.

but in the spirit of ingenuity, Good luck!

I'm at a loss for words.

It's not going to sound any different than any other muffler of the same size/dimensions. And it's a lot more work to make it fit. But if you cut out the spare tire well anything's possible.

the muffler will be cheap-fabrication work to install it wont be too bad. What I save on NOT buying a catback should more than justify it.

its the measuring i need to check out. Im not cutting the spare tire well out. The outlets will be both on the same side in the original location, im not going dual as in one on each side. The engine definitely gives the Z its sound, but there is a certain distinctive note i like about it that i hope the muffler will duplicate on my car.

I know space will be tight, it might turn out to be impossible even, but i need to get under and measure it up. The other option i had was to mount the muffler up toward the middle of the car but again i have to measure.

It will just have to wait till spring to see, thats when im doing it all. Chimp, the Z muffler is one inlet 2 outlets, not 2 and 2.....as well if anyone happens to know the dimensions of the Z muffler or where to get this, let me know.

Well then, why dont you invent some kind of hack job to make it fit, and ill pay you $9,000 for it.

Come on know. You said you would be ready to be flamed and would expect someone to disagree (I know, you never said that you would not respond). But what he does is not any different from making an SR fit into a USDM 240 (all the wiring and swapping), or converting an auto to 5spd (again, more wiring, swapping parts, etc).

Just let it go...

I just don't get it.

You are going to put the muffler on your car? Why? What to you hope to achieve? Do you want a dual exit exhaust system?

Or do you plan on buying the entire exhaust system off a 350z from eBay? And you want to use the whole thing to replace your stock exhaust system? And this will be cheaper than buying a pre-fabbed exhuast made specifically for the 240?

Again? WHY???? If you want to save money, just drive to a muffler shop and have them build one. Do you know how inexpensive it is to have someone weld a couple of 2.5" stainless steel pipes under the car? And then just pick an aftermarket muffler (which they will probably have in stock) and have them weld that on the end. Or just leave it straight pipe.

Cheap. Done. And you won't have a rice'd 240.

the cam timing of an engine has a lot to do with exhaust tone. that and displacement (the amount of air coming through the muffler) thats why a honda 1.6 liter sounds like shit with a flowmaster, but a V8 sounds better. just food for thought. Good luck!
