When we lowered the SR20 into my car (1990 fastback SOHC)
the wastegate/downpipe area touches the steering column! Why is this? Do I have to transfer over the front cross brace also? I even got the frame checked to make sure it wasn't bent and it's all in spec. please help! thanks

Are you already on the motor mounts? That is bizarre if you do <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>
I've only done it w/ an s14 - and while it was tight, there was some room. If you are not on the motor mounts, rest assured, there is plenty more work to be done before you can say it's in. If it's not - you have problem beyond what I know. |

ya iit's on the motor mounts. it's position seems right but me or my mechanic can't figure out why it's touching the steering column.
Gonna try to replace the front brace. Anyone here keep the cold start recurculation pipe? Some websites say to remove it and plug the hole.

Remember the motor sits at a angle from the factory. Do not try to have the motor (Valve cover) sit flat. Then the down pipe will hit the steering rack. I have seen this many times and told people the same thing.
You should not have to change the cross member....!!!!!!!!!!!! Grumpy www.mckinneymotorsports.com

All I can guess is that my stock cross member might be pushed back due to previous accident or something.
It does sit at an angle. IT looks fine but it keeps touching the steering column <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]() do I have to remove anything from the SR for it to fit? I read on some websites to remove the turbo heatshield and the cold start recurculation pipe.

You have to remove the cold start piping and plug the hole in the outlet pipe. What is actually touching the column? Actually just remove all of it, including the piece that is attached to the head. Is it just the piping that is hitting or is it the actual outlet pipe?
