B&M short shifters?
yo, I have a question and Im kind of puzzled....Im gonna pick up a B&M shifter for my 240sx and was wondering are these 2 different?
First one> http://store1.yimg.com/I/phase2motorsports_1841_2036181 http://www.store.yahoo.com/phase2mo...solshorshi.html from phase2, this one has a second step on the plate. Second one> http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/power.html from pdmracing, gonna half to scroll down to the middle of the page...this one does not seem to have that second step on the tranny plate. heres also another place thats selling one, shows a clearer shot of the top. http://www.morepowerracing.com/prod...hFor=&PT_ID=971 It does not have that second step on the tranny plate. Im confused....are these 2 different models? I know it wont matter much, but If they are 2 different models I would like to get the newest model out....yes I know Im being anal, its because I have a job and I can afford it. ![]()

there is version 1 and 2, not sure if they look different.
i have version 1, honestly, the rest of my car makes enough noises where i don't know what people mean by "rattle". i've seen first hand the shittiness of knock off shifters. the famed obx detachable shifter isn't just a joke. I'm not sure about the quality of b&m knock offs, but if it's a moving part, something can go wrong, if it is cheap, make that double, and i'm a firm believer of murphy's law. But hey, to each his own, some people have more faith than I.

the only type of knock offs I like to deal with on my car are knock off aero.
I dont deal with low quality parts expecialy if they are mechanical parts....people who drive their cars hard shouldent deal with shitty parts eatheir, they will just give you headaches. okay cool, I want to get the version 2, any one can suggest other sites that have the version 2 forsale? the only one i found was phase2.

either way if your using a short shifter to drift with. just get one. OBX, megan racing, B&M, Nismo solid, etc many kinds made. just get the Nismo solid shifter. cost is a lil more but hey. its nismo and feels oh so lovely. (Irwin's car has it) I can't believe how precise it is. I find it very hard for anyone to mis-shift on the nismo one. I picked up the megan racing SS, and im going to get some stiffer shifter springs, to increase resistance and feel.

i donno if i like the B&M for shifting...it's sometimes difficult to put it in gear w/o alot of force
i'd rather try and find a C's type shifter much easier to put it in gear...effortless is a good thing i think

is the B&M even made in the US???
if it isnt then it is made by the same factories that are making the knock-off i have the knock off and i love it. everyone i know who had the real deal had the same rattling etc. but paid 3 times more for it. if your reasoning for buying the B&M is "percieved" value, i woudl say look into it more and make sure that you are getting $140 more out of the B&M. chances are that considering Apexi, Greddy, etc. etc. are having stuff made in Taiwan that B&M is as well. heck, Canadian Tire's Mastercraft tool brand (equivalent to Sear's Craftsman) is also imported from Taiwan... but i bet you dont have a problem saving the money buying those tools rather than Snap-On. |

I had a pilot short shifter and it worked pretty good. It DID fall apart but I glued it back with some industrial strength stuff from Home Depot and it hasn't fallen apart since. I have since bought a b&m because I was able to buy it for $120 and it is 100 times better.

holy shit.... the rattle with the old B&M is fixable by removing a lil ring.. and taking that hump out.... once removed take some electrical tape... and wrap it around the shifter.... where the hump was that holds the boot up...
my buddy has a pilot/obx/ebay/c's/knock off.... ill show pictures... the throw is much shorter on the B&M... and the quality is much greater.... i have had first had experience on all of them.... and B&M is by far the best... even the price.... the cheap SS are not worth what ever there selling them for... for what you get.. B&M SS is worth every penny.. |

actually, i personally got my b&m because of drifting. drifting puts a lot of stress on all parts of your car, so there is nothing wrong with saying i want such and such a part because of drifting. It is not any less of a reason as any other type of motorsport. I got tired of misshifting to 3rd or down to 2nd while going sideways. i have tried both the b&m and c's shifters on my friends cars at events and i liked the b&m more. its a matter of preference. the b&m is shorter and more mechanical but the c's is smoother.
I don't care who the hell everyone thing they are, the attitude and asumptions people make on zilvia regarding other members is just fucked up. The "i don't know you so you know jack shit" or "he said drifting therefore he is a bandwagoning honduh poser" replies have got to stop. Everyone needs to stop acting like kids or assholes, be nice and helpful, if you think a thread or question is too stupid to warrent a good reply, then shit don't post a reply. I do that once in a while too but you know what, its a waste of my time posting replies that doesn't matter.

From my observation, i have felt the real B&M shifter and the knock off shifter... the real B&M still seemed to offer the shortest throw possible. Shift knobs where different in these vehicles so that might have also played a role in feelings. Whatever you go with, you will get used to it. The knock off b&m isnt bad, id perfer if it had softer springs in it tho. Real B&M > knock off B&M > stock... so there...
