s13 Real Important Driveshaft Stuff

Ok so here it goes:

At first i thought that the ABS and non-ABS driveshafts were completely different, when connected to the same transmission. In reality the only the part that is different is the rear section of the driveshaft. The front sections are identical.

But here is the small dilema... i also need to do an auto to manual swap. this requires me to replace the front section of the driveshaft.

So, in conclusion the only thing i need to do to convert my Automatic ABS equipped 240SX to a Manual ABS equipped 240SX, is swap the front section of the driveshaft.

The beauty of this is that i can use the front section from either a 5 speed ABS 240SX or a 5 speed non-ABS 240SX.

This should make my part search much easier.

Say I, if you find all this info to be true!

i was wondering, is the automatic ds longer or shorter? cause if its longer, i can just have it cut down to the right size real cheap.

when i put my two ds sections back together i was worried about balancing. so i tried to align the two pieces so that the weights would be in the same places relative to each other (having the weights oriented the same way when the driveshaft was still one piece). eitherway, i think the two pieces might also be balanced individually? prob not tho...

There should be a paint mark on both shafts, line them up as close as possible. Most times they're close enough to balance fine.

They have drive shaft shops for that stuff. Im sure if they can make custom driveshafts for an sr20 into a ae86 than they shorten a driveshaft w/out any problem.

yeah, thats what im talking about, its super cheap to just get them to shorten it, so i think that is what i will do, just had to make sure the auto was longer.

im getting to do my auto to manual conversion.
but i want to clear these things out

what about if you have a ABS automatic tranny and
also have the Non-ABS manual drive shaft.

can you still interchange the front section?
so the Non-ABS manual drive shaft will fit in my ABS 240sx

if so what section do i have to put in what driveshaft to make my custom ABS driveshaft ..

An Easy rule of thumb.

The front Shaft is Transmition Specific.
The rear Shaft is Differential Specific.

So, there are two choices of trans: Auto/Manual
There are two choices of Diffs: ABS/NonABS

Based on these choices, take your pick based on your setup.

Please.

Dude.

ABS does not make a difference on the front shaft.
