Anyone installed a disco potato or 2871R

I'm looking at turbo upgrades that are supposed to be direct bolt ons, but I was wondering how much trouble it really is. Has anyone installed a disco potato or a GT2871r before. What about the s15(GT28r). Does the turbo outlet bolt patern and hot pipe location remain the same or not. Any info would be appreciated. Anybody put one on the dyno?

Yes, a million people have installed those turbos on our cars. Yes, they have all been tested on the dyno with different engines. No, I'm not going to help you with any other more of your questions because it can be all figured out on your own if you use the SEARCH button and use a little common sense.

deffinitely search, you will need a new intake pipe, hotpipe will need some work. oil return metal outlet will need work, new oil return hose. custom bracket made for the wastegate. reclock the turbo. stuff like that will need to be done.

here is some info on the gt2871r, u can find more info about just about every other turbo upgrade if u just even google it or even go to a place that sells them and read what they say. u can also search on here and find out what others have to say about them as long as there arent too many threads like this to search through...

wtf is up with everyone on this site? they bitch and complain about the "search feature" like typing an answer would be a waste of their time...but it takes more time and effort to try and be funny with a cool guy comment about searching instead of helping...

I installed a disco potato(gt28rs). The turbo has the option of coming with a GT28 style compressor housing which gives you the cast manifolds for stock piping. I opted for the straight 3" intake

I rigged up an intake using the enjuku intake i had as well as part of an eclipe intake i got off ebay for $15 (had the angle i was looking for). It's really not hard.

The turbo oil return flange needed to be filed as the bolt patterns are differen and i cut alot off of it and just used a longer hose as the angle wasn't exactly stock due to clocking the turbo for the wastegate acuator to clear.

Also the bolt pattern for exhaust is slightly off on one hole, i had to file the gasket slightly as well as the O2 extension, again, really easy to do. (sorry no pic of this, but its clear when you have it in your hand what needs to be done)

The stock hot pipe couplers/piping can be used with this turbo, just make sure you leave enough room when clocking the turbo to clear your manifold.

this is it installed with a shitty pepboys intake ducting (only thing i could find at the time)

can't really see it here but i ditched the shitty hose after hacking away at some piping i found on ebay by just browsing pictures of "cold air intakes" =]

Hope that helps

Edit: also, this turbo does not require a custom actuator bracket, you just need to flip it around and find the right angle/clock it accordingly.

Just curious how long you have been on that manifold now?

this is my second, first one lasted about 9 months, but the car is off the road now. Bad rings in #2 cylinder. Lesson learned, before upgrading a turbo, don't rely on a compression test, do a leakdown as well =]
