Can A/T adapter plate work on 5 speed?

Just a quick swap question. I am almost done with the manual swap and somehow missed the fact that I need a different adapter plate. I guess it didn't occur they'd be different. Can the A/T one work? Or are they physically a different thickness or shape? I don't see why it wouldn't, but could someone help me out with this?

If at all possible I'd like to use or modify the one I've got, because 240's are a bit scarce in my area. I don't know where to find one or how long it will set me back.

You have a Manual one??

There must be a reason to use the M/T plate. I'm just wondering what it is.

Yes indeed that's the part. Give the man a cookie, he guessed right! The question is: do I really need it? And if so, who can hook me up? Enough with the questions, I need answers.

On a side note, I got layed off today, so I got lots of time to work on my beautiful Zenki. I just need the right parts.

yes the manual one is different for a reason. it bolts to the bottom of your transmission bell houseing. It keeps water and dirt and road grime from getting on your flywheel. the automatic one ends at the bottom of your engine block. Your bell houseing hangs below that point. Do yourself a favor and find a manual trans backing plate. Thats their official name by the way "Backing Plates"

...but the auto one is ONLY different in that the bottom is removable for torque converter inspection/removal.

Use the one you have, BOTH parts...and it's functionally the same as a MT backing plate. Same thickness, too.

Agreed. But if you really want a manual backing plate, PM me, I've got a stack of them.

Thanks much. Maybe I ask questions poorly. That's all I was looking for. Sometimes getting the simple answer is like pullin' teeth. I shoulda been more specific, I guess. I just wasn't sure if there was more to it than that, so I thought I'd make sure.

Thanks for your responses.
