S15 6speed on a SOHC KA

Since it is possible to put a KA tranny on a SR20DET using the SR bellhousing, is it possible to put a 6speed S15 tranny on a KA using the KA bellhousing? For a long time people have been saying that the S15 6sp is a regular 5sp tranny stuffed with another gear, making it weak. So should it work then? I know its not weak, especialy not for the max of 200hp i'll ever be making. I would love to do 6sp conversion in my car.

I want people who have actually maybe tried it to answer, i dont want this to be like how people said that DOHC head wont even line up on the SOHC block for years, now we know better.

If A fits B, why wouldn't B fit A ?

Try it, let us know.

It will not. The 6speed unit has a two piece case, our KA is a three piece. You would have to cut the bellhousing flange off and either weld a KA flange in place, or make an adaptor plate.
The you would need to incorporate the differential into the car in order to have a speedometer, or drill/tap the transmission and somehow fit the KA's VSS in to it.

For that amount of labor you can buy a Grex 6spd kit and install it, and have much stronger parts than either OE unit.

Related to the way the gears are cut, angled or a straight cut, angled will use synchros for reduced noise and straight cut (called "dog" because the gears are shaped like dog's teeth) is a little stronger, but will be louder than all holy hell. That being said, a dog tranny will have no syncro rings and the transmission will need to be shifted more aggressively.

www.google.com is always a good place to start.

They you can use some common sense and try www.trust-power.com.

Finally, anyone with a brain would know about www.takakaira.com as well.

But I'm going out on a limb assuming any of the above.

Note that it's a rebuild kit for use with your existing case, not a full replacement like HKS offers. Grex makes the same type as well but it's triple the cost of the kit and of course will have the same fitment issues with the bellhousing on a KA. Most people don't pay $9k for a transmission only to cut it up. If they do, they own a Ferrrari also.
