by the way you formated your questions, i dont even think know why one caliper would better than another. 30mm is the space between the caliper that allows clearance for the rotor. generally, it doesnt matter much, but a slightly larger rotor widthwise will offer slightly better heat dissapation and cooling.
you would want to look at how big the caliper is and how many pistons it has. if the pistons are bigger and the caliper takes up more space on the rotor, then it should allow more of the rotor to be 'clamped' down when you apply the brakes which would help your car stop faster.. as to which calipers would be better, it depends on what you are using the car for. it is up to you. if you are just trying to be cool, then get z32 calipers since thats what ppl usually get . 180sx brake rotors are only slightly bigger than stock 240sx rotors. most ppl find that q45 brakes are adequate for what they use the car for. if you want to go bigger, go with z32 calipers, or if you want to go all out, go get some 3000+ big brake kit with 6pistons, 13inch rotors, etc by Endless, project mu, etc. |

explain your situation please.
my JDM Silvia rotors are warped and i need to find replacement soon. I need to know whether or not the Altima rotors are the same.

if you want me to explain the situation, its as such:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showpost.php...6&postcount=29 common to all us maxima conversion guys. note in the first picture that you can see about a 1/8" of the pad's fristion surface overhanging the rotor. not a huge deal, since it's still an upgrade form stock, but a larger rotor would be cool. |

First some facts: 1) 180SX uses a 280mm x 26mm diameter rotor, the Altima/Maxima/P11 G20 use a 280mm x 22mm diameter rotor 2) 180SX does not share the same caliper with the Maxima/Altima/P11 G20.......the 2 bolts that attach to the knuckle are of equal distance and will bolt up but the distance of the ears (mounting tabs) from the centerline of the axle are different specs between teh 180SX and Maxima/Altima/P11 G20 or basically differnt between FWD and RWD. 3) The proper rotor to use beside the JDM 180SX 4 lug rotor will be to use a 90 Z32 NA 280mm x 26mm diameter rotor and redrill to 4 lug or if your not 5 lug.

I dont know how I missed this before but I'm irritated I did. Have you personally tried the 1990 z32 n/a rotor or this is just speculation?

180sx=4lug
you can do "z32 brake swap" and not have the 5lug (drill rotors). or get the brakes AND the 5lug swap. i like the maxima deal cause it doesnt have wheel fitment issues and is noticeably larger with more power. also money was a huge factor. i did the whole conversion with ceramic pads, brembo rotors and stainless braided lines for 200. if you have money go for 300zx brakes. |

oh ok, i see now, thanks Nismosilvia270R. Is this the problem with the Altima rotor not being the right size or the Maxima caliper being slightly different?

i think its the caliper's bolt alignment, but ive never seen a jdm 180 caliper so idk for sure.
search for all the threads about this. theres at least 5 threads that have EVERY nissan rotor measured in diameter and width. offset=no dice |

Front calipers excluding B13/B14 chassis but including P10/P11 chassis:
When you you mount a FWD caliper onto a RWD car you gain a few millimeter so you end up with pad overhang. When you try and mount RWD calipers onto a P10/P11 chassis it wont fit becasue the mounting tabs are different and teh only way to make them fit would be to lessen the diameter of teh rotor itself a few millimeters.

Just thought i'd add,
You can use the sentra ser rotors to fix that 5mm gap problem. SER years are 00-05 IIRC.

I don't doubt you, but for those that are four lug the ser rotors are a direct swap. I have the JDM caliper, rotors and 95maxima pads. It's time for me to either step-up or shut-up. So I found the 11' ser rotors. Haven't tried them yet but...time will tell. I don't have the overhang either, and don't want it.
